Tasted by MarkLA on 8/15/2021 & rated 93 points: Smokin'. At peak with plenty of years ahead. (522 views)
Tasted by Madera16 on 8/13/2019: At wine party. Wow. Incredible how the sense of oysters and crushed rocks shines through layers of caramel and honey. Insane texture, like half and half, and long finish. A memorable wine. (948 views)
Tasted by LotionInTheBasket on 2/16/2018 & rated 92 points: Bright golden color, 2 hours in showing traditional Chablis notes, wet limestone/mineralized, lemon notes, some oak remnants, smells crisp. 4 hours, developed a bit more creaminess. More like a lemon curd now, a slight spice note, some chalk/sea shell and goldenrod. It's developing quite nicely. Acidity is a low medium on the midpalate, and id like a longer finish. It's also pretty viscous, an oily complexion. (1608 views)
Tasted by gregg g on 4/18/2015: Started out somewhat muted. Overtime this developed into classic Chablis aromas. As is typical with this producer, the oak is still evident as there is a bit of creaminess on the back end. The wine showed well once it opened. The mid and finish are very full and lengthy. Not my favorite producer in Chablis, but certainly a unique one. Served blind, a few got it was Chablis. In a flight with '04 Pepiere Briords. Paired with spring vegetables, preserved lemon, potato, vadouvan oil. (2687 views)
Tasted by Villon on 3/24/2015 & rated 93 points: Quelle texture en bouche: des nuages. Style boisé appuyé, on pense plus à Meursault que Chablis. Ça manque peut-être un peu de tension. Sésame grillé. Élégant. (2577 views)
Tasted by moveablesirkus on 1/1/2015: so delicious, and very different from the last bottle (opened mid-2014). This was bright and fresh, no sign of oxidiation. classic minerality and acidity. it's a shame i rushed to drink it (which was based on one previous bottle). (2188 views)
Tasted by moveablesirkus on 7/30/2014: past its prime. round, toasty, and the acid has faded. drink up or gift away (2206 views)
Tasted by brianakrin on 5/21/2014 & rated 88 points: tasty but not GC quality (1901 views)
Tasted by brianakrin on 9/9/2013 & rated 92 points: very good. drinking well, has integrated and softened and developed some secondary flavors. No hurry though. (1408 views)
Tasted by chambolle on 2/19/2013: Color is still youthful, straw with barest hints of green and gold. The nose is cool, fresh, sea breeze, tiniest touch of white flowers and acacia honey. Absolutely no 'premox.' The immediate palate impression is taut, lemon/lime, mineral. As it warms and gathers air in the glass, this becomes a rich mouthful of liquid limestone and oyster shell, but there is also a touch of an oily mouthfeel. The finish is persistent and utterly bone dry. This wine seemed to me to be five years from the leading edge of real bottle development and maturity. All the right stuff is there but there is not the complexity and evolution to maturity I expected at nearly a decade from the vintage. Droin typically puts up the top tier grand crus in some new wood - if this wine spent time in new oak, it doesn't show today. My notes reflect that I paid just over $30 for this bottle. It's a long way from here to Dauvissat and Raveneau, but it's also a long way from $30 for this bottle to $150 to $300 or more for a bottle of superstar Les Clos. I'm happy to have half a dozen of these. (2022 views)
Tasted by brianakrin on 10/11/2012: It seemed to have a bit of premox on day one. Day two that faded a bit . did I open too soon?? I'm going to hold my remaining btls for a year. (1804 views)
Tasted by sj38 on 6/3/2012 flawed bottle: Slightly corked (1860 views)
Tasted by Ary on 2/19/2011 & rated 91 points: Next to Droin, les Grenouilles 2004. More refined than G. Some darker fruit tones on the nose. More substance and nuts on the palate. Nice bottle. (2582 views)
Tasted by gregg g on 12/30/2010: We had this with cured pig (a special brand per Palate). Loved this wine. No signs of premox or decline. More toward the richer style of Chablis, but plenty of unmistakable Chablis character: sea shell, citrus, crushed stones. Beautiful pairing. (2203 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 6/5/2010 & rated 88 points: Craig Haserot's Malconsorts Themed Round Robin Dinner (Estate Restaurant, Sonoma, California): Light canary yellow color; tart, underripe lemon, "boiled peanuts," oak nose; tight, lightly oily textured, tart lemon, citrus palate with that telltale '04 lady bug green note; medium finish (3193 views)
Tasted by mburke on 3/5/2009: Nice, lots of minerals, very dry fruit appeared as we finished the bottle. Not outstanding but very elegant. (2202 views)
Tasted by jwsmith on 10/27/2007 & rated 91 points: Fat and round with many years of improvement in the future. (2396 views)
Tasted by Cal Bear on 6/3/2007 & rated 91 points: Bright and clean, with a strong acidic backbone and stonelike mineral crispness. Fruit has notes of grapefruit, good balance. Good chard., though a few others at dinner disagreed and would have rated it lower. (2483 views)
Tasted by GOL on 5/19/2007: Very enjoyable. Maybe not great QPR, and possibly drank a little young (haag's comment). Good length to finish, some type of nut mixed in with earthy unoaked chard flavors. Some nice minerality. (2536 views)
Tasted by nschmidt on 5/11/2007 & rated 91 points: Very good but not worth the price (2541 views)
Tasted by paulst on 12/20/2006 & rated 88 points: Fresh clean lemon apricot. (2523 views)

Les Clos

Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos exact outline

Les Clos is arguably the finest grand cru vineyard. Les Clos has greater density and power than the more elegant Vaudésir It is a deep and compact wine. The strong mineral core is of polished steel and this is enveloped in a luscious depth of fruit. If Vaudésir is the queen of the grand crus, Les Clos is the king. It ages wonderfully – a minimum of 10 years. It’s a large sunny vineyard, (28.39 hectares) facing south. It is quite rocky and has a higher level of limestone.

It is also a vineyard in Bussières

2018 vintage: "marked by a wet spring, a superb summer and a good harvest"
2019 vintage reports
2021: "From a general standpoint, whether for white, rosé or red wines, 2021 is a year marked by quality in the Rhône Valley Vineyards. Structured, elegant, fresh and fruity will be the main keywords for this new vintage."

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
