Tasted by dbkitc on 9/23/2023 & rated 93 points: Absolutely love this. My favorite style of wine. Clear, transparent and complex. Earth, cherry fruit and impeccable balance Medium plus intensity. Drinking perfectly. (93) (412 views)
Tasted by robferguson1 on 7/14/2021 & rated 92 points: Fruity and lengthy , good. (1459 views)
Tasted by robferguson1 on 6/25/2021 & rated 90 points: Somewhat thin but fruity enough , not typical Pommardreflecting the year but other 07s I have had have been less thin , almost watery. (1398 views)
Tasted by weezie on 4/3/2020 & rated 92 points: Elegant. Well balanced and almost feminine in character, in contrast to the few other Pommards I’ve had to date. Held up remarkably well over the course of 3-4 days after opening. Likely has many years left. (1903 views)
Tasted by dbkitc on 3/13/2020 & rated 93 points: Glorious wine for those that like pure, classic Burgundy. True ruby color that’s full of cherry fruit, earth and dried fennel. The slightest hint of cafe au lait? Medium bodied and high toned - a bit wild with tangy edges and a rugged bit not heavy texture. Pure, unadulterated pinot noir. I love this wine but note the style. If you like full, veloptuous pinot, this is not for you. (93) (1918 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 3/6/2020: The Verticals Tasting at 2020 La Paulée de New York (Eventi Hotel, New York): Pale. Surprising sweetness of fruit, good acidity and length. (1896 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/6/2020 & rated 90 points: La Paulée de New York - The Verticals (Eventi Hotel - New York NY): Walk around tasting, in 12/07/99 vertical. Big and good power with nicely fresh and ripe black cherry. Good balance and textures make this a fun wine right now. Best of the vertical for enjoyment today, but the 2012 will be a better wine in a few more years. (3057 views)
Tasted by dbkitc on 11/16/2019 & rated 93 points: Super wine. Transparent, stony yet with a sneaky plumpness to balance. This is pure, pure pure. Good vibrancy and only medium bodied. Drinking very well now - would not hold much longer. I love this style. (93) (1216 views)
Tasted by SteelerFan on 8/14/2018 & rated 91 points: Very nice, easy drinking Pommard. Medium body and color. It is a bit lean and acidic, but very enjoyable. Hard to tell where this will go - would improve if it puts on weight, but may just fizzle out. (1362 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 8/4/2018 & rated 92 points: Fragrant red fruit, earth, spices, hints of floral notes. On the palate very bright and a little lean, unobtrusive tannins, nice minerality, persistent finish. Could be a little more generous, but nevertheless very good. 91-93 (1607 views)
Tasted by Overlook on 1/5/2018: Quick decant. Very prominent nose, open and clean. Red berries, earth, sous bois and some mineral (iron). At a very nice place now, very smooth tannins; almost no grip at all. Doubt this will improve much from here though. (1593 views)
Tasted by Burgundy63 on 1/15/2017 & rated 88 points: Really disappointing for a Montille - Tight not rounded at all (2070 views)
Tasted by Rani on 12/22/2016 & rated 90 points: Tasted blind. Ripe nose of red fruit and crushed flowers, some barnyard too. Lots of acidity but surprisingly fat for the vintage. Very nice, but after some time on the glass started to collapse and the acidity became more prominent. Not one for the long run. (1845 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 7/10/2016 & rated 92 points: Again very good - lovely red berry fruit on the nose, smoke, undergrowth. Savoury and fresh on the palate, nice grip but open and ready. Drink or keep. 91-93 (2317 views)
Tasted by Milos on 3/4/2016 & rated 91 points: Needed about ½ hour in a decanter to show well. Red berry with earthy notes. Palate balance with good intensity of flavours and mineral notes. Moderately long clean finish. Approaching its prime now. Very enjoyable. (2158 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 2/19/2016 & rated 92 points: Expressive and open on the nose - red berries, spices, undergrowth, smoke, floral notes. On the palate mineral and a little skinny but not underripe. The tannins are rather soft, there is good acidity. Spicy, mineral finish showing good length. Drinking well. 91-93 (2195 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 8/10/2015 & rated 90 points: No formal notes, over dinner. Open and expressive on the nose, quite delicate fruit, earth, smoke, spices. A little lean on the palate, tight, firm, grippy. Lacking a bit of generousity and depth. 89-90(+?) (2234 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 5/19/2015 & rated 92 points: Open nose, quite expressive with lots of pure and juicy red fruit, some earth, spices, smoke. On the palate quite soft, with lovely subtle fruit notes, still good grip, well concentrated, mineral. Persistent and slightly spicy finish. Again showing very well. 91-93 (2241 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 2/27/2015 & rated 92 points: Very pale, almost translucent, slightly orangy in colour. A little stemmy, spicy and earthy on the nose, also soft red berries - very delicate and subtle. On the palate ripe fruit, good acidity, slightly spicy. Again delicate with good persistence. In a good spot right now. Very nice. 91-93 (2080 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 9/12/2014 & rated 91 points: Very nice again, dark berries, cherries and forest notes, spices on the nose. Quite delicate, nice texture, slightly spicy with nice acidity. Good length. Drinking nicely but no rush. 90-92 (2333 views)
Tasted by rosenst1 on 6/11/2014 & rated 89 points: PnP. Medium light red. Rather simple nose of red fruits and a little spice; medium weight on the palate. Nothing special - perhaps more typical of the vintage than the Lafon Volnay which was very good and much bigger. Ready to drink. (2466 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 3/13/2014 & rated 92 points: Wonderful sweet berry and cherry nose, creamy oak. Gentle, round, fresh on the palate, great finish. A fantastic wine, good future. 92+ (2199 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 2/12/2014 & rated 92 points: Lovely nose - open and expressive, red berry fruit, wood. On the palate good acidity, very round with hardly noticeable tannins, good character of fruit. Quite subtle, gentle and smooth, but good persistence and in great balance. Very enjoyable. (2194 views)
Tasted by SteelerFan on 12/8/2013 & rated 90 points: Very enjoyable. Well rounded with nice dark red fruit and rich aroma. Medium bodied and ruby/purple color. I understand the comments about a little bitterness, but it didn't both me. Not great, but very nice. I think it will be better in a few years. (2147 views)
Tasted by EMichels on 9/28/2013 & rated 89 points: Lacking acidity; Slight bright fruit (2022 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
