Tasted by viniferatu on 7/4/2020: Killer. Lots of beautiful cooked fruit, savory tobacco, and tons (tons) of spice. Smooth, long and complex. Served at a cool cellar temp, it stayed fresh as it warmed. Label said 16%, but there was no trace of heat, the fruit was impeccable and it went down cool and easy. Velvety, jammy, and very much a Zindandel, this was the best old Zin I've ever had. (1377 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 11/25/2017 & rated 90 points: How does one describe 17% alcohol? Inky color, funky nose, still has life. Good finish. (1519 views)
Tasted by bestdamncab on 3/10/2014 & rated 88 points: I opened this wine to go with BBQ spare ribs tonight. Lovely nose of dark cherry and plum fruit with hints of earth, blackberry and briar, more of the same on the palate, smooth, and supple, this bottle showed tired fruit, nothing bad, just not the best I have had the last three years.  Tasted by bestdamncab on 2/10/2014 & rated 92 points: Time for Zinfandel which means Martinelli Jackass to me. I opened this wine to go with BBQ spare ribs tonight. Lovely nose of dark cherry and plum fruit with hints of earth, blackberry and briar, more of the same on the palate, smooth, supple, no heat, at age 15 years, terrific tasting, lovely long finish and long aftertaste made you want another glass.  Tasted by Jeff Leve on 3/13/2012 & rated 94 points: I remember tasting this on release and I could not stand it at the time. It was a massive, over the top, jammy mess. A decade in the bottle changed this wine into a large, brooding monster, but without the extreme jammy qualities. Earth, dirt, stone, licorice, jam and spice notes, dense, packed and oversized, there was no elegance to this beast, but there was no touch of heat in the 17% alcohol either. (3072 views)

Figured creative food so might as well try some creative wine....giat noce even after decanted, really strong smell of fruit , currents and purple berries, very floral and some chocolate...the french sommelier had never tried this and he was amazed at teh thickness and richness of it. this was one of the best bottles of Martinelli i have had but in a weird way i am not sure i really like them, def not an easy wine to drink alot of. it has many years ahead of it still (2772 views)

All of the Martinelli Estate vineyards are farmed by Lee Martinelli, Sr., and sons Lee, Jr., and George Martinelli. USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
