Killer. Lots of beautiful cooked fruit, savory tobacco, and tons (tons) of spice. Smooth, long and complex. Served at a cool cellar temp, it stayed fresh as it warmed. Label said 16%, but there was no trace of heat, the fruit was impeccable and it went down cool and easy. Velvety, jammy, and very much a Zindandel, this was the best old Zin I've ever had.

I opened this wine to go with BBQ spare ribs tonight. Lovely nose of dark cherry and plum fruit with hints of earth, blackberry and briar, more of the same on the palate, smooth, and supple, this bottle showed tired fruit, nothing bad, just not the best I have had the last three years.

Time for Zinfandel which means Martinelli Jackass to me. I opened this wine to go with BBQ spare ribs tonight. Lovely nose of dark cherry and plum fruit with hints of earth, blackberry and briar, more of the same on the palate, smooth, supple, no heat, at age 15 years, terrific tasting, lovely long finish and long aftertaste made you want another glass.

I remember tasting this on release and I could not stand it at the time. It was a massive, over the top, jammy mess. A decade in the bottle changed this wine into a large, brooding monster, but without the extreme jammy qualities. Earth, dirt, stone, licorice, jam and spice notes, dense, packed and oversized, there was no elegance to this beast, but there was no touch of heat in the 17% alcohol either.

How does one describe 17% alcohol? Inky color, funky nose, still has life. Good finish.
