| Community Tasting Notes (average 91.3 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 10 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Kim Gerner on 3/16/2024 & rated 95 points: One of my extremely interesting tastings: Zind Humbrecht is one of my favorite producers of Riesling. The color of this bottle was deep amber. On the nose it was clearly oxidative, even a little oxidised and technically it had passed its best. On the other hand the nose was in my opinion simply outstanding (97+) very close to extraordinary. Complex including notes of Caramel, saffron, kerosene. The palate was also outstanding but not quite at same level (93+). On the palate it felt off dry and full+ bodied almost like a Sauternes. Flavours and aromas were also so close to sweet/luscious wine but wrapped in an off dry palate. What a great experience. (I have tasted this cuvee and vintage 3 times from same cellar, all bottles stored under same conditions. They all behaved differently (first one app. 3 years ago: no oxidation at all, 2 bottle ½ a year ago. Too old (100% oxidised), and this one (a perfect bottle despite it was a little oxidised).
The last wine of the evening was a sweet wine from Domaine Bliemerose Riesling Vendanges tardive 2016, also Alsace. Clearly it was having a hard time against Zind Humbrecht's fantastic bottle. The color was lemon. a clearly lighter wine with less concentration and less - but still - full body and long finish. High acidity. Against Zind Humbrecht only rated 91. I have earlier rated it 94. Lovely crystal clear golden wheat colour. Really enjoyable but perhaps time to drink up. A little sweetness to this wine. A very nice Riesling. (5799 views) | | Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/2/2005: An Evening with Olivier Humbrecht (Domaine Zind-Humbrecht) (Chicago, IL): Tasting. a good step up here. Charming aromatics are floral with ripe fruit and spice. Hints of RS with good acidity for the vintage, excellent finesseful finish. 91-92. (3602 views) | | Tasted by winefool on 2/1/2005 & rated 92 points: Pale yellow. Medium aroma of mineral and acidity. Nice white/yellow fruit with surprising acidity for the vintage. Nice round finish. 2/05 (4411 views) |

| Zind-Humbrecht Producer website Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is one of the stars of the Alsace, in the northeastern corner of France. Fought over for decades by Germany and France, the region, according to Robert M. Parker Jr., “is perhaps the most underrated and underutilized source of great white wines in the world.” Zind-Humbrecht was created in 1959 by Leonard Humbrecht and Genevieve Zind. Their son Olivier is now instrumental in running the 99-acre estate, which the family still owns. Like many Alsatian producers, Zind-Humbrecht makes white wines in varying degrees of sweetness, from dessert whites to very dry wines. The vineyards are planted to 30% Riesling, 30% Gewurztraminer, 29% Pinot Gris, and smaller amounts of Pinot Noir, Muscat, Chardonnay, Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc. Up to 18,000 cases are produced annually. Many are Grand Crus and single vineyard bottlings.
