One of my extremely interesting tastings: Zind Humbrecht is one of my favorite producers of Riesling. The color of this bottle was deep amber. On the nose it was clearly oxidative, even a little oxidised and technically it had passed its best. On the other hand the nose was in my opinion simply outstanding (97+) very close to extraordinary. Complex including notes of Caramel, saffron, kerosene. The palate was also outstanding but not quite at same level (93+). On the palate it felt off dry and full+ bodied almost like a Sauternes. Flavours and aromas were also so close to sweet/luscious wine but wrapped in an off dry palate. What a great experience. (I have tasted this cuvee and vintage 3 times from same cellar, all bottles stored under same conditions. They all behaved differently (first one app. 3 years ago: no oxidation at all, 2 bottle ½ a year ago. Too old (100% oxidised), and this one (a perfect bottle despite it was a little oxidised).
The last wine of the evening was a sweet wine from Domaine Bliemerose Riesling Vendanges tardive 2016, also Alsace. Clearly it was having a hard time against Zind Humbrecht's fantastic bottle. The color was lemon. a clearly lighter wine with less concentration and less - but still - full body and long finish. High acidity. Against Zind Humbrecht only rated 91. I have earlier rated it 94.

Gorgeous nose of diesel, honeyed almonds, grapefruit and apple with a lush mouthfeel, soft resolved tannins, decent but not great acidity and a nice prolonged finish. Lovely crystal clear golden wheat colour. Really enjoyable but perhaps time to drink up.

A Day With Olivier Humbrecht (Turckheim, Alsace, France): Light yellow in color this wine is showing the smoky notes of the vineyard and the delicate nature of Windsbuhl. A little sweetness to this wine. A very nice Riesling.

(Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Clos Windsbuhl) Bright canary yellow color; baked lemon, baked apricot nose with a hint of petrol; flat, ripe stone fruit palate with no acidity; medium finish

Very delicious Riesling, not bone dry, but with a good balance.

An Evening with Olivier Humbrecht (Domaine Zind-Humbrecht) (Chicago, IL): Tasting. a good step up here. Charming aromatics are floral with ripe fruit and spice. Hints of RS with good acidity for the vintage, excellent finesseful finish. 91-92.
