Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 93.4 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 40 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by phill mz on 10/28/2023: Chock mint vanilla nose and pallet. Big integrated vanilla oak. drinking well now. (213 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 3/1/2021 flawed bottle: Undrinkable pruny mess. Assuming this was flawed but maybe not? (1240 views)
Tasted by jc510 on 2/4/2019: Drank after a Pahlmeyer Merlot, this tasted green, very dark in the glass, medium to full bodied, blueberry, cedar, pencil, with a good finish. I felt it was drinking good and the greenness faded a little and the mouth feel improved.
No score posted but I feel it was in line with the community score to a touch lower. (1717 views)
Tasted by jakob.krummenacher@gmail.com on 7/25/2016 & rated 93 points: Definitely improving with age... Drink now-2025 (2967 views)
Tasted by tbone on 3/6/2016: Decanted 1 hour. Pretty big, pretty fruity and pretty good. Beautiful aromas of both red and black fruits. Great mouthfeel with completely resolved tannins. Fruit is starting to mature and not a lot of nuance, not sure if it will ever come with this wine. But very, very good now if your in the mood for a larger scaled wine. Paired great with sous vide New Yorkers. Last bottle and glad I cellared. (3525 views)
Tasted by AWBryce on 2/9/2016: Very extracted. Olive oil, dill, very herbal with raspberries. Candied fruit, tannic, long finish. (3209 views)
Tasted by Dr.Scott on 12/10/2015 & rated 94 points: Yum. Perfectly mature, perfectly balanced. Nothing to wait for. (2896 views)
Tasted by jfurey21 on 3/1/2013 & rated 95 points: Extraordinary. Was awarded WOTN at a shiraz/syrah tasting. Deep earthy nose. The wine has loads of dimension with its terrior showing profoundly - deep loomy earth notes, spice, liquorice, crushed blackberry all wrapped in mind blowing rounded tannins. This is one of the highest CT tracker ratings I have given to a wine. Must find more. (4049 views)
Tasted by tonsta on 1/3/2013 & rated 95 points: Had NYE. What a stunning wine. Full bodied with apparent oak, but was so well integrated and balanced. Should live for another 5 yrs or so but why wait! Held it's own against a 1990 Grange and a 1988 St Henri (3041 views)
Tasted by Gclout0944 on 8/22/2012 & rated 91 points: great nose of fruit. the wine was ripe and did not carafe. let it sit for approx 1 hr at room temperature. eat beef with it and sauteed potatoes. Long en bouche with small fruit and some spiciness (3162 views)
Tasted by Jflawrence on 8/13/2012 & rated 92 points: Interesting, but not living up to its ratings. Don't get me wrong. I love this wine. It isn't as well balanced as I like. Strong cinnamon. Full canoes. Opens up over hours. Best if decanted and aerated. (2898 views)
Tasted by Jflawrence on 4/15/2012 & rated 94 points: Soooooo goooooood! I might fill my whole cellar with this one. (3004 views)
Tasted by Jflawrence on 4/14/2012 & rated 94 points: Gre--------8! Wow. Flavorful. Hint of cinnamon. I couldn't get enough. I almost opened another bottle just for me. (1782 views)
Tasted by Wayne Richmon on 2/10/2012 & rated 94 points: Last bottle with no decant. Still one of my favorites. Beautiful right from the bottle. Glad to have pleniy of future vintages and variety from Kevin Mitchell. (1664 views)
Tasted by cortoncharlie on 9/21/2011 & rated 92 points: This has come around quite a bit since 5 yrs ago. there is something here that reminded me of Grange. still a very big wine with intense fruit, high glycerin and round tanins. whether this can get better only time wi;; tell. (1925 views)
Tasted by Wayne Richmon on 7/16/2011 & rated 94 points: One hour decant. Rich ripe berry nose, a beautiful full bodied mouth full of dark berries, and a well drawn out finish. WOTN for everyone. (1779 views)
Tasted by Wayne Richmon on 3/24/2011 & rated 92 points: This was outstanding but a little less so than earlier bottles of this wine. Beautiful nose of ripe berries. Light pepper and ripe fruit in the mouth and a nice long finish. No decant. (1929 views)
Tasted by arthrovine on 2/8/2011 & rated 93 points: Wow, drinking extremely well now. (2136 views)
Tasted by tbone on 8/16/2010: P & P'ed. Nice full bodied wine paired well with rustic pizza, arugula salad. Not over the top, but very, very good wine. Gulped down rather quickly. (2288 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 8/14/2010 & rated 92 points: Aged Aussies in Cleveland Park (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): bright purple color, but cloudy with age. smells like sweet cherries, rich coffee and blackberries. on the palate, this wine is so silky and velvety. just delicious. reduced cherries, tons of chocolate and dark coffee, laced with creamy oak. finish is long and really silky. not so big as to assault the palate, instead it leaves you wanting to drink more. very sexy stuff. some said "slutty". (2674 views)
Tasted by tonsta on 7/24/2010 & rated 96 points: Pop-n-pour. Opened alongside an '01 Dead Arm. A fraction more developed than the Dead Arm but just as impressive. I can see why it won all those gongs at the London International Wine Challenge. Softer fruit than the D'arenberg with more chocolate, tar and smoke characteristics.

For my tastes this wine is drinking at its peak now but good examples should drink well for another 3-5 years. I'll drink my last bottle around 2014. (2489 views)
Tasted by Mouthpiece on 8/29/2009 & rated 94 points: Opened and decanted for approx 4 hrs. This was the third wine for a dinner party of 6, and was the hit of the night. Stunning nose that just goes on and on. Blackberry, currants and earthy scents. This is a powerful, tannic wine, but fully developed. (2999 views)

(2912 views)
Tasted by enosnob on 11/20/2008 & rated 94 points: 11/20/08. Purple colored with a wonderful nose of blackberry and currant, vanilla, pepper, earth and smoke. The flavor is equally multi-dimentional with blackberry, coffee, earth. pepper, tobacco, mild oak and vanilla. The is a big full bodied wine with great stucurture and full body, long tannin, and a long finish of tannin, vanilla and earth (2904 views)
Tasted by Bob & Sue Atlanta on 8/24/2008 & rated 97 points: Absolutely amazing. No decanting - one of the best Aussie shiraz's I have ever tasted. (3133 views)
