Community Tasting Notes (average 88.9 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 16 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Amerique on 8/27/2018: Undrinkable! High alcohol without any structure. (1588 views)
Tasted by plitton on 1/7/2017: Bitter. Didn't finish the bottle. (2033 views)
Tasted by JBVino on 4/1/2015: I am about as negative on B&H wines given I have enjoyed a bottle or two out of many. 90% of their wines are overdone, stewed fruit and alcohol driven.

However after this bottle and other note maybe they have a ton of bottle variation as well. This bottle while was still in a more new world style it did not cross over the line. It had good balance, length, texture and some secondary flavors. Now my expectations for this bottle were minimal at best but objectively thought this bottle was pretty darn solid. (2316 views)
Tasted by Dale B. on 9/1/2014 flawed bottle: Smelled of stewed tomatoes and prunes. Undrinkable (2974 views)
Tasted by Greg Pierce on 7/27/2011: Yuck! Opaque purple. Acetone & porty notes on the nose. Blueberries & general sweetness on the palate. A friend remarked that he would never guess it was cabernet if tasted blind. A poor excuse. (3938 views)
Tasted by BinVA on 5/27/2011 & rated 88 points: Not bad but on its way down. Too pruny for my taste. (2888 views)
Tasted by Grapehead56 on 3/17/2011: Way over the top at this point. 15.4 alc dominating Pruny. I will check back in a few hours.
Dessert wine maybe. I do see the stuffing that got this wine an initial positive review (3215 views)
Tasted by drinkwinedaily on 6/25/2007 & rated 94 points: Decanted 2 hours. Black purple color with nice nose of expresso, cocoa and black cherries. Velvetty and rich on the palate, the berry flavor depth was immense with hints of earthtiness and expresso coming through on the finish. Best Behrens I have had to date, with the 2001 Homage to Ed Oliveria coming in a close second. This was no fruit bomb and was a great example of Beckstoffer fruit from a cool vintage and a little better than the 1999 Hobbs Beckstoffer I had back in February. This can be enjoyed now or held for another few years, but why wait... (2819 views)
Tasted by G SQUARED on 4/4/2007 & rated 96 points: Fabulous wine. Really amazing for it's purity and style. This is CA Cab with all the fruit and complexity you think if in a wine you might pay 5 times this much for. Congrats Les! (3105 views)
Tasted by JBVino on 2/18/2006 & rated 88 points: Not my style wine...big all fruit cab with this having a fortified sensation on the nose and palate. Not sure how you pair a wine like with food...this would work with chees at the end of a meal but that sems like about it. (2438 views)
Tasted by jhngo on 10/2/2005 & rated 96 points: Big Huge chocolate. Big nose. Wish I had more of this wine. Long lasting finish. Really enjoyed this wine. (2624 views)
Tasted by KevinS on 8/22/2005 & rated 91 points: Dinner at home of roasted chicken. Tasty -- telltale B&H fruit-driven style, but with a bit of an earthy, funky thing on the back end. Drink now -- hard to see it improving much. (2568 views)
Tasted by Blue Oval on 1/8/2005 & rated 92 points: Double decanted. Dark purple plum color. Nose of blueberries, dark fruit and spice. Well integrated and balanced. This full bodied wine did not have any trace of heat on the finish. (2730 views)
Tasted by jonphillips on 8/27/2004 & rated 91 points: These B&H wines remain too simple too many, and tasting too hot. (2729 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
