Tasted by GraffCellar on 5/21/2021 flawed bottle: Corked (1305 views)
Tasted by Raizes on 12/27/2019 & rated 90 points: 黑李子、黑樱桃、甘草和湿树叶,以及存在感很强的烟丝、雪松香气。果味的甜美和烟熏的熟成气息似乎有些矛盾,此消彼长之间略欠缺过渡。拥有良好的酸度和柔顺的单宁,依然富有活力,但也开始步入中年。 (1890 views)
Tasted by tomimeson on 4/16/2016 & rated 92 points: Still good - a bit of a brett nose, which blew off. (3498 views)
Tasted by WineAggregate on 12/31/2014 & rated 90 points: Not as good as hoped, but I had high hopes. A little pruny and tired, with some plum and dark fruit notes. Past its prime. (4055 views)
Tasted by M DU VIN on 10/20/2013 & rated 92 points: From 3.0 liter bottle. Dark and full-bodied with nicely integrated tannins. (4896 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 9/6/2012 & rated 89 points: Bonhams Pre-Auction Tasting (Bonhams & Butterfields, San Francisco, California): Bricking dark red violet color; very mature, herbaceous, tart plum, black fruit nose; mature, tart plum, menthol, tobacco, tomato leaf palate; medium-plus finish (1194 views)
Tasted by Catnapped on 7/16/2010 & rated 93 points: Good, slightly cheesy nose. Drink it up, not going to get any better. (5791 views)
Tasted by brynmair on 6/24/2008 flawed bottle: funky nose and a weird taste - too bad it was a bad bottle with the original price tag still on it - $31.99 (5613 views)
Tasted by huntly on 3/22/2008 & rated 93 points: The 93 is a dark purple with a nose that comes out a talks to you. Herbs, some tobacco, and a rich dark berry are prominent. The mid palate is rich with cherry, a good deal of smoke and even some pepper come thru. Its rich in construction, with a long finish, integrated and smooth tannins, and a complexity you rarely find in a california wine. I would definately have guessed a St. Juilien if this was a blind tasting. Overall, just a wonderful wine--although I would say its probably ready to drink now, despite some observers who give it a much longer life..... (4180 views)
Tasted by burningstarIV on 5/16/2006: This bottle was slightly roasted, without the freshness of other recent tastes. The general fruit profile did not match with previous tastings, so I think this may have been heat damamged. This experience may be an indication that it is time to drink any bottles that have questionable storage in their past. (4557 views)
Tasted by gjmwine on 4/30/2005 & rated 91 points: When we opened and tasted, it was very tight. After about 30 minutes of decanting the wine opened up beatifully and more so in the glass. Lots of dried dark fruit, leathery and lasted long in your mouth. Just another great bottle from a great vinyard (3561 views)

Peter Michael

Producer website

The Peter Michael Winery is the California outpost of British-born Sir Peter Michael who has shown a Midas touch for selecting brilliant winemakers, including Helen Turley, Mark Aubert, Luc Morlet and more recently Luc’s brother, Nicolas. The consistency of these offerings from the cool climate hillside vineyards in Knight’s Valley and the Sonoma Coast has been respected and cherished by each of these winemakers... All things considered, Peter Michael is one of the reference point wineries in California.

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
