I'd very little experience of LMHB. These were all top vintages. I was struck by their sweetness, which nicely balanced out the tannin, and would have been happy to drink any of them today.
2000 Château La Mission Haut-Brion 93 Points

Thick, purple, porty, grippy, rich - almost New World - powerful, ripe, quite approachable

Lean (at least relatively so for La Mission), spicy, a syrah-like fragrance, full, balanced, lovely now

Powdery nose, but quite intense. Savoury mid-palate. Fat and grippy

Alarmingly brown. A more volatile nose, penetrating, really intense blackcurrant core. Fantastic concentration and balance. Minty. The volatility gives it an extra dimension.

Pure, refined nose, touch of mint, still plenty of youthful vigour, sweet, smooth, long and rather lovely

Browning, but still opaque, savoury nose, grippy tannins, but layers of fruit to balance it. Long, powerful, super

Once again, brown but opaque. Nose more reticent than the others. On the palate, very dry, cold tea, but again wrapped in a layer of sweetness.

Fresh, pure, nose, which continued to develop, powerful, lingering, sweet - gorgeous

Amazingly young-looking. Lovely harmonious nose, but not as much as expected on the palate - still lovely balance

Fully alive, a fair whack of tannin, but overall a lovely balance of acid, sweetness and grip, nicely lingering

1962 Château La Mission Haut-Brion Flawed
France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
A bonus bottle donated by Neal Martin, but unfortunately corked. Hard to ignore the taint, but it seemed to have a fabulous fragrance
