France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Deep golden. Slightly oxidized, which I think enhanced the character of the wine rather than detracted from it. Extremely complex, relatively heavier than the '96 Niellon Clos St. Jean which I tend to prefer.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
Significant signs of bricking. Dark, brooding, complex Burgundian nose, with the usual earthiness. Excellent complexity on the palate, and is ready to drink now.
Big, bad Napa cab. Just exactly what you expect. Huge nose of cassis and cream, but somewhat vapid on the palate. Unexceptional, especially for the price point.
Inky, dark, and alcoholic. Almost port-like. Very fruity and jammy. This is wine of a certain style, and you have to like the style to like it. Tannins are still a little young, but I doubt that this will get much better with any more aging.
Golden colour. Typical sauternes nose, quite spicy and floral. Good notes of botrytis. Sweet and approachable; I'd say you can start drinking them up now.
2002 Gaston Chiquet Champagne Premier Cru Brut 90 Points
France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
Refreshing, approachable, quite dry. Not a long finish, but very pleasant. Less fruit than I would have liked in a champagne, but great nonetheless.

Greenish tinge, this was still very fresh and has some ways to go in terms of age. Lovely citrus-focused wine.

2005 Domaine St. Martin Fixin 1er Cru Hervelets 88 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Fixin 1er Cru
Dense, black, and quite powerful. Smoky nose, and much less subtle and earthy than I remember it being. Needs some time for the tannins to unwind.

Glass-staining and dark in colour. Creamy, and evokes the gravel that litter the vineyards around Graves. Needs more time.
