Got my first taste of the heralded 2009 vintage. Laurent Drouhin was there, and it was great to meet him and chat about Burgundy. In his opinion, 2009 wasn't a universally successful year (as compared to 2005 which was an "easy vintage"). That being said, he says the good producers were able to make some nice wines with expressive fruit that are approachable young (at least at the villages and 1er Cru levels). Interestingly, he prefers the 2008 vintage which he feels is more a pure expression of the Burgundian terroir. I thought, in general, the wines were very good; the whites impressed me more on average than the reds. Looking forward to trying more of their portfolio.
2009 Joseph Drouhin / Drouhin-Vaudon Chablis 89 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis
Smooth lemon and chalky mineral palate. Excellent acidity without coming across too tart. Really nice AOC-level Chablis, perfect for an everyday white.

2009 Joseph Drouhin / Drouhin-Vaudon Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Opulent nose of ripe peach, Meyer lemon, and seashells. Smooth, rich, fruity palate with excellent acidity and a saline finish. Very approachable now, but will likely improve with some time in the bottle as the fruit right now is very youthful. 91+

2009 Joseph Drouhin Meursault 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
My favorite wine of the day, at least as far as how it's drinking now. Lemon, red apple, nectarine, vanilla, and honey. Amazing balance of fruit, oak, and acidity. Smooth, medium-plus length finish.

2009 Joseph Drouhin Chassagne-Montrachet 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
Similar flavor profile to the Meursault, but more subtle. Lemon, vanilla, and yellow apples. Nice, but lacks "wow" factor for me.

2009 Joseph Drouhin Puligny-Montrachet 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Ripe apple, candied lemon, peach, and vanilla with a hint of tropical fruit. Richer, with slightly more perceptible alcohol and oak than the other villages-level whites I tried today. Will probably benefit from some cellar time.

2009 Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
This has tons of potential. Oaky spice and hazelnut nose. Very tight on the palate, but there's a richness that suggests the quality of fruit underneath. Tough to score this right now, but I'll guess 93+ with appropriate cellaring time - at least 4 or 5 years.
