Introduction

End of the season for ChTR. Lots of wines, lots of food and good company!

Flight 1 (9 Notes)

  • 2006 Prunotto Barolo 86 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Decanted for about 30 mins, tasted double blind. A rather light red with a slightly aged look to it. The nose was not very expressive, with some cherry, a bit of leather, some vanilla, rather light. The palate followed with some tannins, light red fruits, somehow felt like the fruit was going, like an aged wine that is over the hill. I was not very impressed with this, felt much older than it is. Still, a nice wine.

  • 2007 Vinhos Sogrape Alentejo Callabriga 87 Points

    Portugal, Alentejano, Alentejo

Decanted for about 30 mins, tasted double blind. A very dark wine with a violet tinge to it. This was a very strong wine on the nose, lots of dark fruit like plums, vanilla, somehow a clean nose on this. The palate was all about vanilla and fruit, lots of tannins and a slight toffeeish background to it. This was good, but very very fruit forward. Tons of everything, will calm down with some years in the cellar, I think.

  • 2005 Château la Voulte-Gasparets Corbières Cuvée Réservée 87 Points

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Corbières

Popped and poured. Quite a dark red, no violet in evidence. The nose caused some discussion, a hint of smoke, lots of red berries, strawberry jam and a bit of white pepper. The palate was rather light, with some spicy red fruits and some tannins. This is perhaps a tad past its prime, the Carignane came through quite strongly to give the wine a strawberry jam kind of feeling.

  • 2003 E. Guigal Gigondas 88 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas

Popped and poured. My last bottle. Lots of strawberry here and a slight raisin component. The palate was much the same, bright strawberries, lots of tannins, a bit of a port-like aspect to it. Nice!

  • 2008 Luigi Bosca Cabernet Franc Reserva 85 Points

    Argentina, Mendoza, Maipú

Popped and poured, tasted double blind. An expressive wine, with lots of cherry on the nose. The palate was also full of red fruit with some tannins and a bit of vanilla coming through. Quite surprised that this was a Cab Franc, not much varietal typicity here in my opinion. But very quaffable.

  • 2007 Château Le Vieux Chantre 84 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Puisseguin-St. Émilion

Popped and poured, tasted double blind. A rather dark red with a distinct violet tinge to it. Very perfumey and flowery on the nose, red fruit. The palate had lots of tannins, quite strong tastes of dark fruits and a slight sweetness to it. Not very typical of Bordeaux, I think.

  • 2009 Farnese Sangiovese Don Camillo Terre di Chieti IGT 78 Points

Italy, Abruzzi, Terre di Chieti IGT

Popped and poured, tasted double blind. Hmm, not much here. This smelled and tasted cheap. Sangiovese? Nothing here to suggest that. Blah.

  • 2008 Columbia Crest Cabernet Sauvignon Two Vines 82 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

Popped and poured, tasted double blind. Lots of cassis and vanilla here, both on the nose and on the palate. Meh, a wine to down without thinking twice.

  • 2004 Felix Solis Valdepeñas Viña Albali Reserva 86 Points

    Spain, Castilla-La Mancha, Valdepeñas

Popped and poured, tasted double blind. Last wine of the night, not much going on here, pleasant red berries and some vanilla, a nice enough wine.
