Blind Tasting with the neighbors from Shetland and Wilshire Drives
Tasted Blind at Shetland/Wilshire Wine tasting. Decanted for about 60 minutes (not needed at all). Light and simple, red fruit, balanced. Soft and smooth, very little tannins... Pleasant wine and a nice QPR, accomplishes what it sets out to do.

Tasted Blind at the Shetland/Wilshire Wine tasting. Was decanted for about 60 min. Unbelievable nose, had my mouth watering for a taste. The taste did not disappoint. Big rich dark red fruit. Hint of smoke. Richly layered fruit but not over the top. Drinking very well right now. Was my favorite wine of the flight, and the group's favorite wine of the flight. This actually was my WOTN just edging out the 2001 Mondavi Reserve Cabernet. Great bottle

Tasted Blind at Shetland/Wilshire Wine tasting. Decanted for about 60 min. Nose was a bit funky. Cherry fruit and some smoke on the palate.Good acidity. Long savory finish was best part of the wine. In hindsight, may have suffered coming right after the Kosta Browne in the tasting order...

Tasted Blind at Shetland/Wilshire wine tasting. Decanted for about 60 min. Smokey red fruit on the nose. Bitter sour cherry on the palate. A bit rough. Not sure if this comes together any more. Not a big fan of this one.

Tasted Blind at the Shetland/Wilshire Wine tasting. Decanted for about 60 Minutes. Full bodied, red fruit/Sour cherry. Balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Would seem to be a great food wine. Upon the reveal, was surprised that this was a Cru Beaujolais and not a Pinot Noir. Very enjoyable at a fair pricepoint

Tasted Blind at Shetland/Wilshire Wine Tasting. Decanted about 90 Min. Super Tannic and closed. Some red fruit on the nose, with what seemed like darker fruit on the palate. + acidity. Even though decanted for 90 min, could have used double that easily, maybe even triple. To be honest, the wine did not show well at all, and the nature of the tasting and number of tasters did not allow us to go back and retaste after more air time.

Tasted Blind at the Shetland/Wilshire Wine Tasting. Decanted for about 90 min (do not think it needed it). Softer Cabernet, sour red fruit. very simple, not offensive, would drink it again. Tasted perhaps a bit generic...

Tasted Blind at Shetland/Wilshire Wine Tasting. Decanted for about 90 minutes. Simple wine that comes off as light on the attack. Dark red fruit. Generous oak treatment, and a surprisingly long soft finish. This wine was actually my favorite wine in the flight, which really surprised me at the reveal. Not mind blowing, but a pretty decent effrort for the price point. As I entered this note, I saw that I had pretty similar thoughts for the 2007 vintage. Will have to start throwing into my party wine mix. Gave it 87+ points.

Tasted Blind at Shetland/Wilshire Wine Tasting. Decanted for about 90 minutes. Generic red fruit, some oak, not offensive by any means, but really no pop either. Was a bit disappointed on the reveal to see that this was the Simi.

Tasted Blind at Shetland/Wilshire Wine Tasting. Decanted for about 2 hours. Great balance to this wine. Dark fruit, good acidity. More elegant than muscular. Long delicious finish. Outstanding effort. Was my favorite wine of the flight, and just a thin hair behind the Kosta Browne for the WOTN.

Tasted Blind at Shetland/Wilshire wine tasting. Decanted for about 2 hours. Dark fruit, Seemed a bit lighter than I remembered. Sweet tannins on the shortish finish, Pretty good effort but nothing spectacular. In hindsight may have suffered coming after the 2001 Mondavi Reserve. Good QPR for a mid week drinker. Will actually buy more.

Tasted blind at Shetland/Wilshire wine tasting. Decanted for about 2 hours. Dark fruit, medium bodied cabernet. had a good mouthfeel, and a slightly sweet finish. Oak is noticeable but not over done. Well made wine with good fruit. This was a really good effort. Upon the reveal, this might have been the surprise of the night for me. Great QPR, and something that I will go out and buy.

2006 Chateau St. Jean Chardonnay Reserve 91 Points
USA, California, Sonoma County
Tasted blind at Shetland/wilshire Wine tasting. Great bouquet of lush fruit. On the palate this wine was bursting with Tropical fruit banannas, and vanilla. Very creamy. My first thought was Creme Brulee. Ample oak treatment. This wine could be described as hedonistic and Delicious. Was my Favorite wine in the "White Flight" by a good margin. Great value at the <$20 I paid. Will go back for more

Tasted Blind at the Shetland/Wilshire wine tasting. Light and simple, best described as watermelon with some minerality. Nice summer quaffer. Was group's favorite in the White Wine flight (especially a big hit with the ladies at the tasting). Was my 3rd favorite out of the flight

Tasted Blind at Shetland/Wilshire Wine tasting. Yeasty, medium bodied. Well balanced wine. could have used just a touch more fruit to suit my tastes, but still a very good effort, and a good value at the $19.99 I paid for it.

2009 Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc
New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
Tasted Blind at the Shetland/Wilshire Wine Tasting. Grapefruit for days and days on the nose and palate. Uusual NZ Cat piss on the palate as well. Sauvignon Blanc's are not my cup of tea, so no rating on this one, but it was well made for a style that I did not like. People at the tasting that do like NZ SB's rated this very highly.
