This past Friday approximately 17 locals and distant friends, mostly posters on the Wine Berserker wine forum. gathered together to help Tex celebrate the big 4-0. The wine theme for the evening was loosely based on the 2001 vintage with a few 2003 vintage wines and a couple of birth year wines from 1971 making an appearance. Here are the results:

Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of yellow pears, light notes of soft brown spices and wet stones. Flavors of lemon, yellow apple and a bit of mineral. Bright acidity, medium body. Drink or hold.

Light garnet color in the glass, slightly cloudy looking. Nose of iodine, tar, black berries and wet stones. Flavors of tart berries, cherries and a bit of raspberry. Tart acidity, integrated tannins, medium body. Drink or hold, I'd likely drink.

Garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose was a little subdued showing some aromas of potpourri, black berries and maybe some plum. Tight on the palate giving way to some flavors of black berries, black cherries and a bit of black raspberries. Medium to bright acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium to full bodied. Drink with some air or continue to hold.
My guess was a 2001 California Cabernet Sauvignon.

Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Tight nose giving way to some aromas of spice, berries and maybe cherries. Tight palate showing some flavors of black berries, black cherries and plums. Medium acidity, firm tannins, full bodied. Drink now with lots of air or continue to hold. No rating because not enough air or bottle age.
