Introduction

Pierre Seillan "Vigneron" oversees the vinification and winemaking of the above three Jess Jacksonj/Pierre Seillan wine estates. The dinner highlighted his French "Bordeaux - St Emillon talent" in three principal wine producing regions; Tuscany-Italy;St/ Emillon-France; Napa-US.
The first course was a foie gras ravioli paired with the Arcanum I & II 2002?? (the 2003 was advertised, and is being offered for sale??)
The second course was a rolled vollaile(fowl) with the 2003 Vignot and Lassegue
The third course was Beef Wellington with the 2002 Verite La Joie and Le Desir.

  • 2002 Tenuta di Arceno Arcanum I Toscana IGT 86 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

At Duo wine dinner, served with the foie gras ravioli. Also served with the 02 Arcanum II. A drinkable 02 Italian,(which is like saying a drinkable 98 Napa). Paired decently with the food but its rating is appropriate given its price $100+/- and its inferiority to the 03 St Emillon's Vignot and Lasseqgue @ $35 to $50.

The 03's were advertised, and are being offered for sale, but the 02's were poured???

  • 2002 Tenuta di Arceno Arcanum II Toscana IGT 86 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

At Duo wine dinner. Disappointing, lousy QPR vs Seillan's 03 St Emillon's. Paired decently with the foie gras ravioli and the sangiovese presence gives it a notch higher than the Arcanum I. Repeating from the Arcanum I note, 03 was advertised and is being offered for sale but the inferior 02's were poured???

  • 2003 Château Lassègue 91 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

At Pierre Seillan wine dinner at Duo, Miami. Decanted for 3 hours and paired with the rolled volaile(fowl); and also served with the 03 Vignot. Both wines were a clear step up from Seillan's expensive/inferior 02 Tenuta di Arceno Arcanum's I & Ii. The Lassegue was surprisingly accessible, and richer than the Vignot. I have been surprised at how accessible the 03 French wines in general are. Those that survived the heat have demonstrated Napa like character and drinkability. At a $45+/- price very good QPR.

  • 2003 Château Vignot St. Émilion Grand Cru 90 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

At Duo, Miami Pierre Seillan wine dinner. Decanted 3 hours. Cousin to the Lassegue. Very drinkable now and an excellent QPR. The St Emillon's were clearly better than the $100=/- 02 Arcanum I & II. Wine had good but modest bouquet and while quite flavorful, is not as intense or rich as the slightly pricier Lasseque. I will buy both, but prefer the Lasseque for its richness, complexity and potential.
This was Seillan's 1sr vintage in St Emillon, and he and Jess Jackson only closed on the property mid-summer. The 04's and 05's would seem to offer great promise, and hopefully for 05, a reasonable value. I wouldn't be surprised to see these St Emillon's approach the quality of the Verite's, whose 1st vintage was 98!

  • 2002 Vérité Le Désir 92 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County

Decanted for 3 hours. Served after the Le Joie with the Beef Wellington. Paled in comparison, but still an exceptional wine that needs time to evolve. Promising bouquet and solid mouth feel, with a moderate lingering finish. On its own it would have shined. The Verite's were definitely the class of the evening.

  • 2002 Vérité La Joie 95 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County

At Pierre Seillan wine dinner @ DUO, Miami. Decanted 3 hours before serving. WOTN. Wonderful complex palate and finish, bouquet restrained now, but an extraordinary wine that is amazingly quite approachable now. Have 3, and am ordering 6 more tomorrow.
