Introduction

We managed to schedule dinner ... at last!

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2001 Les Plantiers du Haut-Brion Blanc 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Ok. White Bordeaux at the French Culinary Institute: its not original, but it works. Unfortunately, all of us ordered "red wine" food... except for Kimberly (who was smart). This is the 2nd wine of Haut Brion's white bordeaux (graves). I got notes of grapefruit, petrol, flowers and some mineral on the finish. Maybe a little less vibrant than prior bottles ... but that might have been the (poor) meal pairings? Still really delicious, and a favorite wine of mine!

  • 1998 Reverie Special Reserve Diamond Mountain 90 Points

USA, California, Napa Valley, Diamond Mountain

With Mickey Dobbs, Chuck Edwards & Kimberly Turner, @ L'Ecole. I thought this wine showed quite well. I got notes of cherry, currant, minerals and some spice box. And paired excellently w/ my rack of lamb--particularly the herbal crust on the lamb, which brought out the flavors of the wine. Reverie is the winery operated by the (primarily) grape grower Norman, who grows grapes for Lokoya (until 2002), among others. They also make a splendid Cabernet Franc
