One of Heritage Wine's special weekend theme tastings, this focused on the specific Italian wine-making region of Piedmonte.
The best wine of the tasting was the Mauro Sebaste Barolo, but at $64.99 it was not a wine that I felt was special enough to put out that kind of money. For value and quality, I would go with the Castello di Neive Dolcetto d'Alba.
NV Il Conte D'Alba Moscato d'Asti Stella Rosa Imperiale 85 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Moscato d'Asti
Much too sweet for me, this was a syrupy wine with little acidity. Perhaps good for dessert with a very dark chocolate base, but otherwise not enough going on here to recommend it.

2004 Oddero Langhe Bianco Collaretto 80 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
Skunky aroma was off-putting, as was the high level of oak that overwhelmed the apple fruit that was barely tasted underneath.

2003 Icardi Barbera d'Asti Pierin 87 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Barbera d'Asti
Ruby colored, with slight bricking at the edges. Cherry and slight licorice aromas, with coffee and figs added to the flavors.

2004 Castello di Neive Dolcetto d'Alba 88 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba
Spicy aromas and a strong cedar note in the red fruits on this wine. Light tannins, not much body, but a nice red to pair with food.

2000 Azienda Giribaldi Barbaresco 88 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
Already showing good bricking, this was a light-bodied red wine with herbal and black tea and herbal aromas and flavors. Seemed a little past its prime, to me.

2001 Mauro Sebaste Barolo Monvigliero 90 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Ruby with good bricking, this had fruity aromas that were slightly vinified, and a mild violet taste on the palate with still strong tannins. I suspected this needed more time in the bottle to bring out its best.
