This was quite a brunello tasting for 10 bucks. Was excitied to try some of these wines for the first time.
I came away a bit disappointed and thinking Brunello's may not be my thing. Overall well made wines but they come a way a bit acidic and thin to my current preferences in reds. The di Neri Tenuta Nuova probably held the most promise but still wouldn't be worth the money vs other choices to me.

Flowers, peppery, cherry nose. Cherry with slight medicinal palate.

2008 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 91 Points
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Was really excited to try a Tenuta Nuova but came away a little disappointed even though its still a nice wine. My first impression was it was too tannic and very young with a bit too much oak. However with more time started to open up. There nose had an interesting sweetness. Usual brunello sour cherry palate with some weight behind it and not too acidic. Sure this improves with age but not sure it will ever really knock me out.

Too acidic and off balance to me. Balsamic and herbal. Cherry. Least favorite of the bunch.

2006 Castelgiocondo (Marchesi de' Frescobaldi) Brunello di Montalcino 90 Points
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Smoothest of the tasting with tannins not so overpowering. A bit of a surprise since I was thinking 2006 was the more tannic vintage. Nose was a bit muted. Sour cherry palate.

2007 Argiano Brunello di Montalcino 90 Points
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Interesting nose with an earthy note but not too overpowering, perhaps the highest acidity of the brunellos in the tasting although wasn't too out of balance. Expected cherry palate.

Darker color for Brunello. Kind of light on the palate though. Hint of flowers on nose.
