Introduction

A nice event based on 6 Timorasso from 3 producers, presented by Walter Massa and Luigi Boveri. Massa being ready to perform on a theatre stage.
Timorasso is an almost forgot veriety from Piemonte. A high alcohol level (all being between 13,5 % and 14,5%) and a very hard minerality were sharing factors. But also these wines showed a great chance to get older and older, without loosing their personality. Steel only.
The older wines, with their lovely golden colour, are an upper class when compared to the last vintage of base Derthona. And moreover, 2008 was a brilliant vintage.

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2011 Terralba Colli Tortonesi Derthona 81 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Colli Tortonesi

    Brilliant light greenish Yellow.
Intense and fine at nose: fennel, maybe agrumes, sage, mineral.
Dry and good acidity, but minerality above all.
Not well balanced, a bit harsh. 14%

  • 2011 Luigi Boveri Colli Tortonesi Derthona 83 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Colli Tortonesi

    Brilliant light greenish Yellow.
More fruity than the Terralba, with scents of agrumes and pineapple.
Same high minerality and harshness, but more balanced by a clear fruity taste. Rounded.

  • 2011 Vigneti Massa Derthona 82 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Colli Tortonesi

    Same light brilliant greenish Yellow.
Vey closed at nose at the beginning; then, some tropical ripe fruit joining the mineral footprint. Fennel.
More body, but also more detached than the Boveri. Unbalanced. Maybe needs more time to be tamed.
