Pinotage decanted 1.5 hours. Cabs for a few hours more (not sure)

• 2006 Kanonkop Pinotage 91 Points

  South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch, Simonsberg-Stellenbosch

  This was significantly better than the 2009. It is clearly evidenced in the nose and has more tannins than 2009.
  
  Lovely violet nose with a moderate tannins levels that are softening.

• 2009 Kanonkop Pinotage 89 Points

  Little to no nose which is unusual for a Pinotage. Although it does open up a little over time. Ultimately very similar to the 06 in body - more tannins (6/10). The 06 won the taste off between the two given the great aromas and bouquet supported by the same bodies.

  Tannins 7/10. Hint of cherry in the nose. Definitely tastes youthful and on the lighter side.

  Light fragrant soap and fruit nose. Fruitier than the Stags Leap with balanced tannins (7/10). Medium to full bodied - an enjoyable cab.

• 2010 Pine Ridge Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 93 Points

  Dark chalk and minerals on the nose. Good strong tannins (7.5/10). Overall dryer cab with good minerality. Enjoyable. My experience of Howell Mountain is not normally as full and good as this - this will have me testing some more Howell Mountain in the future.
