Introduction

Three persons enjoying great conversation on historic moments.

Flight 1 - Plate of liver paté and a Sea food dish (2 Notes)

The Blanc de Franc was a MUST HAVE from seeing the label. But naaah... Don't need it again.

Flight 2 - Salad plate and Lamb w/Rosemary (2 Notes)

Pin just simply stole the show. What a fabulous showing! Still has more to give...

  • 1999 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Monferrato Pin 94 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Monferrato

Perfect cork, other-worldly aromas of Shakespearian poetic qualities struck us as this was decanted. The small quality control sips confirmed it: this is a fantastic wine with few peers.

Ruby red with hints of browning.
Nose is rich, huge, mature: apple peel, sumi-ink, leather and very mature fruit/beriries.
On the palate, this is distinctly fresh with tannins that make your mouth dry. The acids matched the first course well: liver paté w/pickled veggies. It absoultely married the lamb...

    Wife: 98p (precisely her taste.)
Final btl in the next year.

  • 2010 Umathum Pinot Noir Unter den Terrassen zu Jois 86 Points

    Austria, Burgenland

This is a very good Austrian wine that wifey gave 73 points because: "it has a strange smell and is watery."

I kind of like the bitter PN quality.
Already the pale red colour gives this grape away. This wine is intense, has intrusive acids, not much tannin and a light body with some mineral qualities. Still very young at age four. Reduced and caramelized strawberries with a wild bunch of herbal and vegetal qualities. Tastes just like an unoaked Grand Cru Bourgogne. Fabulous if you're in to that sort of thing.

Bought in Vienna. Will grow and evolve for many years to come. We just ran out of this wine and will not seek out ant further btls. QPR is poor.

Closing

The 1999 Pin from La Spinetta clearly stole the show.
We enjoyed this evening sooo much, that the owners had to (kindly) ask us to go so that they also could return home.
