2nd Annual Holiday Party

We had 26 Friends over to celebrate the holidays. Some are wine drinkers, most not, but at my party there is always going to be wines around, but it just doesn't make sense to pull out the big guns. WOTN - 00 Kelham Cab, still one of my favorite 00 Cabs.

• 1999 Merryvale Chardonnay Dutton Ranch 90 Points

  USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

  An excellent chardonnay. Pick up pear, vanilla and oak. Finishes with a nice citrus finish that makes it easy to pair with food. Beautiful light straw color that comes from a 6 year old chardonnay.

  Good value Napa sparkler. Crisp finish. Nose of vanilla and oak. Citrus, crisp and toasty mouth.

• 2004 Bodegas Olivares Jumilla Panarroz 90 Points

  Tremendous value. Lots of complexity. Took 90 minutes in decanter to open up and reveal earthy tone. Tons of ripe red fruit and a solid amount of tannins. You would be hard pressed to find a wine of this substance for the $8 price.

• 2000 La Jota Cabernet Sauvignon Anniversary Release 90 Points

  For a 2000 this has alot of intense fruit and strong tannins. Very good mountain cab even in an off-vintage year. A lot going on in the mouth.

  Good value for a sweet moscato. Not complex but very dependable. In the winter, use as a dessert wine. In the summer, drink on a hot day.

• 1997 Eric Ross Old Vine Zinfandel Port Occidental Vineyard 91 Points

  Originally bought this at Silver Oak Cellars Winery in Napa. Raisins, chocolate and leather were the key components that this find California Port delivered. Served after dinner with chocolate cake and the guests all loved it.
