  • NV Pol Roger Champagne Brut Réserve 90 Points

    France, Champagne

No detailed note as we were having dinner with friends. Red apple noted in particular this time. The complete and classical style of this Champagne never fails to impress.

  • 2012 Domaine Joblot Givry 1er Cru Clos de la Servoisine Blanc 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Givry 1er Cru

A really lovely Givry, complete and balanced, with and attractive earthy note, good (if slightly estery) fruit, lovely mineral freshness, tension and well-judged subtle oak; good flavours and length. Drinking very well now.

  • 2011 Velich TO 90 Points

    Austria, Burgenland, Neusiedlersee

A rather unusual blend of Chardonnay, Riesling and Welschriesling, matured in oak. Good weight of ripe fruit, nice balance between the creaminess conveyed by the lees ageing and the ripe but refreshing acidity. Not easy to pin down but clearly a wine of substance and confidence. A versatile food companion.

  • 2009 Bodegas Elías Mora Toro Viñas Elías Mora 89 Points

    Spain, Castilla y León, Toro

Made from 100% Tinto de Toro. The label mentions 14.5% ABV, but this may well be in excess of that. There is nice nuance to the fruit and the wine does not feel big or heavy; on the contrary, it has a lovely balancing freshness, soft but present tannins and good length. Drink now.
