Introduction

A neighborhood Oktoberfest party provided the opportunity to crack a couple of Ken Wright mags. Before heading out, I popped each, poured out a glass and wrote the following notes.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2006 Ken Wright Pinot Noir Canary Hill Vineyard 93 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

From magnum. P&P. Medium light color, wide clear rim. Deep, complex and nuanced aromatics highlight bright red fruit, spice and cola nut. Sweet and gentle on entry with red berry, black cherry and spice cake flavors. The texture is soft, sweet and velvety and finish is very long and nicely warm. A lovely example of the vintage. Drink now through 2016.

  • 2007 Ken Wright Pinot Noir Abbott Claim Vineyard 92 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Yamhill-Carlton

From magnum. P&P. Lightly colored with a wide, clear rim. Spice, underbrush and high toned aromas lead to bright but gently sweet flavors of red cherry, baking spices and a bass note of black plum. The texture has some density and there is power and depth in the finish. I have to check out more 2007s if this is any indication. Drink now through 2017.
