Michael kindly accepted a request for me and my father to call in for a look at the current vintages. A delightful morning with a winemaker who knows exactly what he wants to do with the wines and takes the best parts of old-world and new-world wine making techniques to do it.
2013 Bannockburn Riesling 93 Points
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Geelong
The first thing to hit you with the nose is the apples, but there is a lavender element to it that gives spiciness and complexity. The palette is a dense apricot kernel with a hint of olive and a beautiful, mineral finish that is long and tactile.

2013 Bannockburn Sauvignon Blanc 95 Points
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Geelong
There is a beautiful, spicy wood to the nose of this wine that even has hints of matchstick. The palette starts with a sweet, fruit hit with passionfruit and fabulous florals, boysenberry ice-cream, Madeira cake, and even a hint of autumn leaf. This is a very different style of Sauvignon Blanc winemaking that the usual new-world stuff and it is all the better for it.

The wine has a beautiful gold colour and a nose of white peach and curry leaves. The palette is mellow and balanced with a textural, spice, mineral core and an interesting, bright finish.

2011 Bannockburn Chardonnay 3 Years on Lees 95 Points
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Geelong
This shares many of the characteristics of the regular Bannockburn Chardonnay, but with all the citrus knobs turned up a few notches. The wine is powerful and dense with bright, interesting acidity. Watch this space.

2010 Bannockburn Chardonnay S.R.H. 95 Points
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Geelong
A nose like a lemon sorbet - good citrus and creaminess - and a delicate phosphorus element. The palette has dried apricot and almost cherry-acidity.
