Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • NV Domaine Laurent Cognard Crémant de Bourgogne Blanc de Noir 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Crémant de Bourgogne

Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour, fine bubbles.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with very nice aromas of yeast, bread, steely minerality, and apples.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of yeast, bread, green + red apples, citrus lemon, steely minerality. Medium+ finish.
Very good quality Cremant. A lot more bang for the buck than a lot of NV Champagne out there.

Good quality Oregon Pinot Noir. Fruity and for early drinking. I think not for further ageing.

  • 1998 Nicolas Potel Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

Appearance is slightly hazy (jostled around in car), medium intensity, garnet colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, with aromas of dusty powdery earth and red cherries. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, grippy medium+ tannins, medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of earth, raspberry, red cherry. Medium+ finish. Fruit tasting a bit tired. Has the acidity and tannin to last longer, but I think the fruit will dry out before then. Could have been better a few years ago.
    Good quality. Drink up.
