Introduction

This is a terrific tasting. Friendly and engaging folks. Educational. Wide variety of wines. Right off of Sonoma Sq. Highly recommended.

Flight 1 - Chards (2 Notes)

  • 2012 Sojourn Chardonnay Sonoma Coast

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Winery tasting. Nose is toasty with tropical fruit and a mineral kick. Palate has good, pure fruit with an underlying acidic backbone that provides balances, freshness and length. Well made. On the simpler side. 87-89

  • 2012 Sojourn Chardonnay Durell Vineyard

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Winery tasting. Nose is more substantial than the Sonoma Cost appellation bottling. Full, rich aromatics with apple, pear and spice. Palate has rich fruit and good underlying acidity. On the richer side of CA chardonnay but the structure is there to support. Long lifted finish. 90-92

  • 2012 Sojourn Pinot Noir Wohler Vineyard Russian River Valley

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

Tasting room. Classic RRV nose of rich, sweet black cherry, cola and Christmas spices. Palate has plush fruit with good balancing structure. On the more rich side of the spectrum. Approachable today. 88-90.

  • 2012 Sojourn Pinot Noir Ridgetop Vineyard

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Tasting room. One of my favorites of the tasting. From a choice vineyard farmed by the Valdez family and shared with top Sonoma producers. Lovely, full aromatics - Red cranberry, grapefruit zest and herbs. Palate delivers a complex flavor profile echoing the cranberry and citrus from the nose while adding more forest floor and herb medley. Lifted with good acidic edge married to plush fruit. 91-93

  • 2012 Sojourn Pinot Noir Rodgers Creek Vineyard Sonoma Coast

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Tasting room. Another of my favorites from the tasting. Full complex nose has red cherries, herbs and leather notes. Medium bodied palate is leaner and more structured than the other Pinots line up. Crunchy acidity. Red fruit and earth notes. Tight today. Needs time. 90-92.

  • 2012 Sojourn Pinot Noir Campbell Ranch Vineyard

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Tasting room. Darkest of the Pinots tasted today. Full nose of black cherry, spice and floral notes. Palate is round with plush, generous fruit. Good balancing acidity. Approachable and ready to go. 88-90.

Flight 3 - Cabs (2 Notes)

  • 2011 Sojourn Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District

USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District

Tasting room. My notes indicate Terra Valentine fruit. Full nose starts with an herbal kick, blackcurrant fruit, tobacco and cedar. Palate is well structured with robust tannin and medium body fruit. In a more structured style - will need time to flesh out and integrate. Like the underlying complexity and structure. 90-92+.

  • 2011 Sojourn Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

Tasting room. Big but still un-delineated nose - bold red fruit and earth notes. Palate is more forward than the nose (and then the Spring Mountain Cab) with blackcurrant, tobacco and fresh cut herbs. Suave underlying tannin. Long finish. 91-93+
