IWFSC 802 Dinner

This was the final dinner of our season and also a business meeting. We finally returned to Glenview Club after a very long time. The day was beautiful and several of us played golf. The temperature was in the middle 80's and our dinner started with Champagne on the patio overlooking the 18th hole. We then proceeded into the main dinning room for a table of 30. Executive Kendal Duque did a great job of pairing his food with our cellar and with the help of Richard and Augie the evening was memorable.

  Very nice. Structured well. Got the green apple fruit. Long finish. Very youthful.

  Very good despite some btl variation. Good nose, nothing really compelling yet good. Went very nicely with the halibut. Drink up.

  Very light color, lots of berry, strawberry, nice, not going to get better, a bit stringent.

Wild Boar Chop, Grits, Cipollini Onions, Kale, Bone Marrow Sauce

  Hitting on all cylinders, deep color, great floral nose, long finnish, filling and dense on the palate. Still has a couple of years.

Selection of cheeses...lots

  Sadly, out of 30, I did not get a glass. Waited for some to leave and took their glass. Very nice, perfumed nose, very integrated and balance. Shorter finish. Good drinking window.

Mignardises

• 1992 Fonseca Porto Vintage 98 Points

  Portugal, Douro, Porto

  Open an decanted and put back in the bottle at noon. Poured into a carafe at 11 an left over night till 7 am. Back in the btl to be open later that night. This was a big leap of faith and based on prior cellartracker comments this was a winner. All of the alcohol heat associated with a young port was gone and the flavors of strawberry, cocoa, licorice, berries came thru. Smooth on the palate and a lingering flavor that just continued on and on. What a lovely treat.
