Flight 1 (8 Notes)

  • 2012 La Colombera Colli Tortonesi Il Montino 88 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Colli Tortonesi

Pronounced minerality and sugar wool on the nose as well as ash and chalk. Medium intensity, accidity from lemon and quince, accidity is very long in the mouth. Taste of a lighter Chenin blanc. More broad than deep, more on the nose than palate.

  • 2012 Yann Chave Crozes-Hermitage Blanc 88 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Crozes-Hermitage

80M/20R, no oak. Creamy, not intense, lightly sweet, mildly flowery nose. Relatively light, low concentration, even plush, one can feel the alcohol here, especially as it warms up. Salty and with ash on the finish. As it gets warmer it becomes sweeter, pineapple appers on the palate as well.

  • 2012 Marc Sorrel Crozes-Hermitage Blanc 90 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Crozes-Hermitage

70M/30R, 18m in 600l old oak. Darker than Yann Chave. Nose of jasmine, lilac, thicker, greener, darker and more serious. There's some fishy notes as well as spices, lean minerality. On the palate it is quite dense with pickle notes as well as lime blossom, candy, honey and grapefruit finish.

  • 2013 Domaine Bernard Gripa St. Péray Les Figuiers 89 Points

France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Péray

    70M/30R, 15% new oak, 600l.
Mild pickle, some chamomile tea, nothing really sticks out, everything blended in aromatically. Palate resembles the nose, good accidity, ripe white fruits, vanilla and notes of new oak. I preferred St.Joseph.

  • 2012 Marc Sorrel Hermitage Blanc 91 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

    92M/8R, 14m in 5-10y.o. 600l oak.
Darker yellow colour. Earthy, food aromas, anise or fennel. Round, soft, foody, milky nose. Ultimate balance, probably on the brink of closing down.

  • 2012 Marc Sorrel Hermitage Blanc Les Rocoules 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

    85M/15R, 16-18m in 5 y.o. 600l oak.
More buttery than "simple" Hermitage, more intense, more precise. Rich and dense. Lychee, some strange exotic fruits, one can feel that it is on a different level, classy. With time it developed a pleasant light flowery note. Excellent indeed.

  • 2005 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

This is absolutely a textural rather than aroma wine. A wine for savouring, not for smelling. Despite the apparent intensity it had a light, airy feeling. Nose of dried apricots, smoke and sulphur.
