Introduction

An annual trip to the city of light to have great wines from this beautiful and maybe worlds best wine cellar. A bit of defiance to terror made it more valuable if we can ever say that.

Flight 1 (7 Notes)

  • 1988 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

Seldom a 95 is given for a wine with a wiff of cork in it. But despite that the fruit was vibrant and complex, lovely depth and complexity. We can not but wonder how close to perfect this would have been should it have been a perfect bottle. 95++

  • 1983 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline 100 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

Second time cross paths with this perfect wine, again sourced by the spectacular cellar of La Tour D'Argent, Paris.
Much like last year this was a magnificent wine, smoky roast meat notes, lovely purity and elegance.supercomplex and we can go on and on. But really no need. 100

  • 1988 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage 97 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

No decanting and could have used. Bit as it had a lot of fine sediment.
The colour is not of a 27 yr old wine. Very much the same for the fruit in the magnificent wine ,vibrant, rich , alive and with a nice liquorice notes. Similarly on the palate, the tannin is silky yet very much firm and was a masterclass of purity and elegance.weeould dare say this is ontheyoungside. 97-98

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny

From the magnificent cellar of La Tour D'Argent, Paris.
Straight from the start this was masterclass of a wine. The colour was youngish and vibrant, a feeling that was carried by the wined rom nose to palate too. Super complex and elegant, lovely silky tannin and a depth of flavour to write songs about. Purely a superb wine. 98 and with a lot of life ahead of ot.

    From half bottle.
Gold , dense colour.nice petrolly nose , rich fruit ad that signature polished acidity. A lovely purity and elegance across and if acidity and longevity is your game this is a wine to fly the flag on. The definition of elegant polished acidity. 94+

  • 1985 Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste. Hune 93 Points

    France, Alsace

We got offered a glass of this by the table next to us in La Tour D'Argent, Paris ( vs a our offer of a sweet 1989 clos rougeard)
Given we had the 1990 ( Papies 94) on the table it was interesting to try this side. Less colour that the 1990 and this was more of a dark yellow than a gold. The weight is less too and is on the mineral side in a way with that lovely petrolly edge on the nose and a polished acidity and elegance that is the signature of this wine. Well evolve and more mushroomy in a way. Very good 93

  • 1989 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Coteaux de Saumur Sélection de Grains Nobles Brézé 94 Points

France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Coteaux de Saumur

Came and shown at the end of an amazing wine flight.
Made only in great years we could not but try this. Nice density of fruit, well evolved yet vibrant acidity, lovely depth and elegance. Very good and an experience to say the least 94. Among the must try wines.
