Spain, Canary Islands, Tenerife, Valle de la Orotava
Light red. Herbs and anise on the nose. Light to medium weight with good flesh. Peppery black fruit, spice, blood orange, good acidity. Interesting and good. It brought to mind some Corsican reds.
Medium ruby. Strong, distinctive smell of American oak. Lovely weight and feel, but there is noticeable wood from start to finish. Supple, brown spices, red fruit, tobacco, and excellent acidity. While it is showing more obvious wood than I recall from past tastings, it is still a terrific value which delivers complexity and further aging potential.
Dark ruby. Cedary nose. Medium weight, woody base. Lively blueberry fruit, tobacco and cocoa, good acidity, moderately grippy, tannic finish. Better in several years.
Ruby center with lightening. Spicy blueberry aromas like fresh baked pie. Subtle neutral wood base gives a pleasing texture. Medium body. Tart blue fruit, good lift from excellent acidity, significant tannins, and surprisingly stony finish. Amazing bargain.
