France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Bright red. Pretty, open nose of ripe red fruit and earth. Light to medium weight. Nice mix of fruit and soil in a very Gevrey style. Moderate tannins. Drinkable now but has the ability to improve. This is so different from the funky, skunky Maume wines from years ago.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Red. More earth, herbs, and volume than the Maume Pallud. More backward and tannic than that wine. Very earthy, drying tannins. I would not bet on this one.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Light ruby center. Reticent aromas. Black fruit. Powerful, tannic, and earthy, but it still has a fine mouth feel. Grainy finish. Completely unapproachable now, but I think this has some potential with 6 or 8 years more in bottle.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Ruby. Brambly nose. Dark red fruit, herbs, and bitter chocolate. Backward, high acidity, moderate tannins, and a finish that makes you pucker. Not rustic but very structured and for the future.
2012 Marchand & Tawse / Pascal Marchand Bourgogne Blanc Avalon
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
Yellow. Nice peach and orange. Medium body. Very light oak. Dynamic, lively, some soil. A very enjoyable Bourgogne.
