Pale lemon colour, gentle mousse, very fine bubble; good depth on the nose, ripe lemon and yeast, aromatic green herbs, minerals; nice weight of fruit on the palate, crisp and mineral but silky and with a hint of spice, good intensity; slightly savoury finish, good length.
Incredibly fresh and youthful but with a lovely hint of evolution, great mineral energy, spices, very complete array of fruits (from lemon via melon to banana!), salted butter, retains a wonderful tension, develops a note of baked apple, but remains precise and incisive, long.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Tasted blind. Complete, velvety, spicy, very rich, rounded, fully mature but with amazing fruit, incredibly layered and complex, black tea, beef stew, melting and harmonious, cool minerality, fresh mushroom, length and depth. Develops very quickly in the glass, lovage. Recently acquired at auction, provenance unknown, probably some storage issues. Perfect bottles must be otherworldly.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Tasted blind. Cooler and more mineral than the extremely rich Duffau Lagarosse 1990 that preceded it, feels younger, but it shares the richness and power of the vintage, ripe acidity, firm tannins, refined Cabernet Franc freshness, develops well in the glass, velvety and long finish. Perfect balance, very stylish.
Tasted blind. Honeyed nose, a wonderful marriage of freshness, richness and evolution, spices and blackcurrants, so elegant and flowing, lifted, finely grained tannins, great length and finesse. Supreme Lynch-Bages, just beautiful.
Baked apple, flowers, very sweet but elegant and layered, honey, lip-licking acidity, spicy and rich, bright and fresh, vanilla cream, long and lifted finish. Remains completely intact in the fridge for two days, gains depth even; hint of caramel on the finish. Long life.
Deep and rich amber gold; incredibly concentrated and sweet, mature flavour profile, dried fruit, blonde tobacco, figs, Alpine herbs, an essence of Riesling and botrytis, tangy acidity, extremely long. A powerhouse: to drink by the thimbleful. Wow! Holds up effortlessly over three days in the fridge. Long life.
