  • 1976 Drappier Champagne Carte d'Or Brut 89 Points

    France, Champagne

Rustic, PN character to this recently disgorged champagne. Nose of carrots, beetrots, raisins. A bit of damp basement as well, but this evidently comes from the aging. Leathery feel in the mouth, raisins as well. Very good and certainly with character, but lacking in elegance or precision. Though, has nice complexity.

    France, Champagne

Quite recent disgorgement, some 2-3 years of post disgorgement aging. On the nose there was intense marzipan, carrots and vegetality in general. Very intense palate, such a strong presence, ripe red fruits, power over elegance. Though fades quite soon with time, becomes metallic, to drink soon and don't keep for too long when opened.

  • 1976 Domaine Laroche Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Unbelievable colour, not unlike a 10 y.o Chablis. Cork came out in one piece, excellent storage must have been. Round and pleasantly fat. Hint of vanilla, some smoke, some pineapple, hint of exotic fruits. Marvelous. Good Chablis can age so so well.

  • 1976 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut 96 Points

    France, Champagne

Fantastic! Still very high accidity. Creme brulee and freshness togehter with utmost complexity. I expected it to feel older, but it had the best of the both worlds - energy of the youth and wisdom of the ages. Aged BdB is such a treat!

  • 1976 Lanson Champagne Brut Vintage Collection 95 Points

    France, Champagne

From magnum. Immense accidity, no malo shows, especially in magnum. Toasty and complete. Hint of marinade appear with time.

  • 1976 Gosset Champagne Brut Grand Millésime 94 Points

    France, Champagne

Firm accidic backbone, non-malo seems to show here as well as in Lanson. A bit of earthiness, but overall ripe, ready and very enticing champagne. One of the favourites of the evening.

  • 1976 Bollinger Champagne 90 Points

    France, Champagne

This has aged more than Chardonnay or non-malo champagnes we had before it. Ripe PN character is evident. Appley, cider like, ripe red apples. Very good anyway, but give me more of CdC, Lanson or Gosset!

  • 1976 G. H. Mumm & Cie Champagne Brut Millésimé 87 Points

    France, Champagne

Yeast and raisins, later becomes more creamy on the nose. Palate was soft, juicy with notes of peach. Finish a bit tart. Nice by itself, but not a match for the rest of the bunch.
