  • 2006 Littorai Pinot Noir Mays Canyon 87 Points

better than the first one we shared that was corked. I was anxious.
medium light in color with some age some age, the nose showed dried red raspberries and a hint of orange peel. Fully resolved tannins and decent acidity, this seems a bit past it's prime. Probably quite nice 4-5 years ago. Smoke them if you got them.

  • 2014 Sojourn Pinot Noir Riddle Vineyard 94 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

I am always excited to try a new wine from an established label. This Riddle Vineyard is just awesome.
Pretty nose of red cherries and currant, the palate shows an amazing brightness of fruits, now bringing in black cherries and blackberry, this is electrifying with a crunchiness and freshness that just grabs hold of you. Deeply layered and intense, it is perfectly balanced with a superstructure that sits on it's own bones near weightlessly. How a wine can be bold and lithe at the same time has always amazed me. Finish goes long and true. An 'exciting' wine for sure.

  • 2014 Sojourn Pinot Noir Wohler Vineyard Russian River Valley 91 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

This one come out a bit closed (compared to the '14 Riddle). Nose of some pretty red fruits with a near medicinal note that goes bye-bye fast. then it rocks on. It becomes fragrant with notes of frangipani and spring flowers. A redder style fruit profile that becomes intense and pure with a swirl more. Elegant and precise with a nice balance, it's tannins seem complicated and made for age and acidity perfect. One of the key things I find with Sojourn Pinots is their ability to defy the percent of alcohol listed on the labels. Lovely with Peking Duck wraps, this remains deft and precise right to the end.

Update, next night: Wow, this gets an extra point or two tonight. Totally cohesive with amazing deft balance and an even purer array of darker red fruits. I do love when this next night greatness happens. Not often enough. This one is an 'ager'. An easy 93 tonight.

  • 2014 Sojourn Pinot Noir Reuling Vineyard Sonoma Coast 92 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Lighter in color than the other Sojourn Pinots. Nose of strawberries and red cherries, this is a tad leaner in the palate than say the Riddle and even the Wohler. Nicely balanced with some mid-palate intensity, this is fragrant with notes of orange peel and worn leather. An obvious distinction to its breeding, this has smooth silky tannins and an acidity that is right on; it shows much interest and potential and I would lay some down for at least 3 years to let it get to it's nirvana. Very nice.
