Lots of raw autolysis - raw and slightly earthy baguette, with fresh green apple. It's like a Champagne but raw. Fresh on the palate with high-minus acid and a touch of bitterness. Not bad!
Trebbiano, Verdicchio, and Malvasia. Pale yellow in the glass. Distinctive raw marzipan nose with slight floral hints (from the malvasia?). Classic pinot grigio structure - medium minus body, dry, medium alcohol, medium plus acid, slight bitterness.
Medium salmon-ruby in the glass - some serious color for a PG. This has seen some skin contact. Nose is a bit "natty" - slight plastic, sour peanut (mousy). Medium body, medium alcohol, medium plus acid, medium minus tannins (significant for a white wine!).
The nose isn't my cup of tea, but if you like this style, the wine is structured and balanced.
Viognier-Marsanne blend. An "Orange" wine - and medium orange in the glass.
Interesting nose - expressive. Bruised sweet flowers, orange blossom, hint of canned peach. Slightly plasticky. The nose shows significant Viognier influence but is only medium-plus intensity. On the palate, it's really nicely balanced. - slightly elevated acid - medium plus acid - medium plus bitterness - medium tannins (significant!).
The plastic note in the nose is bothering me a bit, but other than that, this is a really great example of the style - a little orange, but still fresh.
Cinsault. Medium ruby in the glass. Carbonic nose - Red raspberry jolly rancher, cherry vanilla. Hints of earthy, lambic/bacterial stinkiness. Fresh with earth. Like Dutraive but a bit more tannic. In the mouth: - medium body - medium alcohol - medium plus acid - medium plus tannins (papery and a bit scratchy).
100% Graciano! Inky purple in the glass - opaque. Classic Rioja nose of well-integrated mostly used oak, savory leather, oxidation (bruised, dried fruit), blackberry, black mushroom. Medium body, slightly elevated alcohol, medium plus acid, medium tannins (oak influenced - some baking spices on the finish, but well-integrated). Like a Sagrantino made into a Rioja, with lower alcohol. Love it! It's really developed on the nose, for 2013.
Medium-minus ruby in the glass. Natty nose - slight glue, plastic, peanut/mousiness. Bright red fruit - raspberry and cranberry. Elevated alcohol Elevated acid Medium minus tannins
Cab and merlot apparently ?! Interesting choice to pick so early, press lightly. Not getting any Cab or Merlot character here.
It's fresh and juicy, but the natty aromas may be off-putting to some.
