Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • NV Champagne Suenen Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

Disgorged June 2015, from 2012 base wine. I found the low dosage so dominating that it made this wine slightly rough around the edges. Wonderful concentration, but in a style that doesn't thrill me.

  • 2000 Morey-Blanc Meursault 1er Cru Bouchères 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Ripe orchard fruit aromas and flavors. Slightly musty to start, even a bit muted. Really opened up with 10 minutes in glass. Age appropriate evolution with very good concentration. Very good length. started shortening after an hour in glass, then less interesting after two hours. Best through 2018 or so.

  • 2000 Joseph Drouhin Clos Vougeot 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Open 30 minutes before serving. Started with sensational spearmint, eucalyptus, licorice and nicely mature red cherry aromas. Similar flavors, just slightly less alluring. Stayed persistent through an hour+, then slowly simplified. 95 point nose, 90 point palate. Much better than another bottle from the same case opened 4 years ago.

  • 2001 Domaine Billard-Gonnet Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens-Bas

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru

Open 30 minutes before serving. I liked this quite a bit to start with nicely mature red fruit, moderate weight, spice hints and elegant textures. Turned south within 30 minutes of serving, losing interest within another 30. Drink up.

  • 2006 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

Popped and poured, I wish we had given this more air. Ripe black cherry aromas with baking spice. Similar flavors, just slightly less expressive and also slightly closed on finish. Expanded and opened with more time in glass, but not close to really showing its full potential. 90 points today, 92+ point potential.
