Introduction

Tonight's menu came from two dishes that I have wanted to try making for awhile. This thread go me thinking today about Coffee Rubbed Steaks. I used Greg's recipe and enjoyed the results. I was surprised that, while there were slight hints of coffee, it was fairly faint. What I most noticed was that the coffee added a earthiness that seemed to bring out the beef flavor. I really enjoyed it.

I also served Grilled Potatoes. I first boiled some Yukon Golds for 50 minutes. After letting them cool a bit, I halved them and coated them in olive oil and Sea Salt and pepper. I then grilled them on a hot charcoal grill over a sprig of fresh rosemary. They really turned out well. Yum.

Finally, I served Grilled Endive and Baby Bok Choy with olive oil and 5 leaf Balsamic.

This wine continues to settle down and become a good drink. The nose is fainter than before (I gave it less air this time. It really seems to need 3-4 hours.). It shows chocolate, smoke, ripe blackberry, and only a hint of heat. The palate seems less dense than before but better balanced. I find flavors that match the nose. The most memorable part is the initial rush of sweet, smoke blackberries. This wine may lack a bit in finesse, but it makes up for it in power and purity of fruit.

Overall, I am not sure I would plan a meal with all courses grilled, but this worked well. The steak was a different take on a dish that we commonly have. Thank you, Greg.
