Introduction

Had friends over and opened some good wines.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 1992 Dönnhoff Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Riesling Spätlese 93 Points

    Germany, Nahe

[At home with Mikhail and Svetlana. Pop n pour.] Dark gold color. The nose is sweet and complex with a touch of botrytis. Still has firm acidity and great balance. Tastes aged, but not oxidized or over the hill in any way. A delicious wine. A touch short on the finish, but so tasty up front. With Serrano Ham, Country Pate, and Assorted Cheeses.

Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 1998 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Asili 94 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

[At home with Mikhail and Svetlana. Decanted around noon, drunk around 6pm with Steak.] Beautiful nose of dark fruit, black tea, and saddle leather. Great texture with layers of black fruit, leather, tar, and fruitcake. Still early in its drinking period. Don't try now if you don't like tannin. Expansive and lingering finish.
