Introduction

I'm getting married!

Flight 1 - Family Mehndhi (2 Notes)

A family favorite, my last four bottles of 1995 Clerc Milon were finished this day.

  • 1995 Château Clerc Milon 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    (8/16/2017)

Medium ruby with age-appropriate bricking; elegant, integrated, still excellent fruit, earthy; palate is full bodied, superb medium-plus acidity, balanced medium alcohol; medium length finish. Classic Bordeaux at peak. 91

Same as the other bottle I just opened, but in comparison a bit more closed. I think the 30 minutes of air really helped the other bottle open up, and I expect the same from this one. 90-91

Flight 2 - Mehndhi/Sangeet (1 Note)

Lots of wine consumed by family and friends, but I only really tried the Reignac which was excellent.

  • 2000 Reignac 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Supérieur

    (8/17/2017)

Decanted 1 hour. Classically styled Bordeaux at maturity, a great value wine. 90

Flight 3 - Haldi (7 Notes)

Finally, a night for me to try some wine. =) I had tried all of these before, and most were consistent with previous trials. All good wines, but the Dehlingers were flipped from what I remember previously. The Cabernet was better balanced than the Claret this time around.

  • 1998 Domaine Paul Autard Châteauneuf-du-Pape 88 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    (8/18/2017)

Briefer than usual impressions: Nice mature Chateauneuf, surprisingly approachable immediately after decant. Nice. 88

  • 1998 Domaine de Beaurenard (Paul Coulon et Fils) Châteauneuf-du-Pape 90 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    (8/18/2017)

Briefer than usual impressions: I liked this just a tad more than the Autard. Both were really nice though. This seemed just a bit more serious and well balanced. 90

  • 2000 Château Sansonnet 86 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

    (8/18/2017)

Briefer than usual impressions: Fairly modern. Not bad, just modern and lacking unique character. 86-87

  • 1994 Château Lafon-Rochet 89 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

    (8/18/2017)

Briefer than usual impressions: Really a solid aged bordeaux, though maybe lacking in uniqueness. Lovely though, and I enjoyed it even in a party setting. 89

  • 2002 Clos Fourtet 88 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

    (8/18/2017)

Briefer than usual impressions: Fairly ripe and modern, though less so than the Sansonnet and so I have hope for positive development in my last bottle. I'll wait a year or so before opening the last one. And improvement from my last taste. 88

  • 2005 Dehlinger Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Bottled 89 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

    (8/18/2017)

Briefer than usual impressions: This flipped from my last taste. From my previous experience, I liked the Claret better, but this time the Cab had less obvious oak, though still modern styled. Overall well balanced. A great party wine, as everyone loved the style and recognized the producer, but perhaps not what I would drink on a regular basis. 89

  • 2005 Dehlinger Claret 85 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

    (8/18/2017)

Briefer than usual impressions: This flipped from my last experience, where I liked the Claret better than the Cabernet Sauvignon. This time there was a ton of vanilla American Oak, almost overwhelming. The Cabernet Sauvignon was easier to drink. 85
