An almost equal blend of Côte des Blancs Chardonnay and Montagne de Reims Pinot Noir, with a touch of Pinot Meunier, 20% vin de réserve, approximately three years sur lattes, dosage < 9 gr/l. Balanced and harmonious, elegant and refined, fresh and floral, hints of crème patissière and almond, clean finish. This bottle seems a little more characterised by the Chardonnay than some of the other ones I've had.
Pale salmon colour; lovely nose, strawberry and green melon, spicy minerality, hay, whiff of reduction, good depth; well-structured palate, fresh and vibrant, medium weight, quite firm in style with noticeable bitters, really dry but there is some sève; complete finish, again slightly reductive, good length. Needs another 12-24 months.
Fermented in stainless steel, aged for 6 months in 2nd year barrique, and then 6 months in inox. Youthful and pure, energetic, concentrated and fresh, black cherries and warm spices, peach, note of tobacco, floral lift and a hint of earth, juicy and playful, warmth from the oak rounds it off nicely, lovely balance, gentle but bright skin phenolics; good resonance and length.
France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Savennières Roche aux Moines
Tasted blind. Pale white golden colour with green reflections; mineral and saline nose, aromatic green herbs, green citrus, hints of warmth and linen; juicy and supple palate, ripe apple, nice warmth from a hint of wood, lovely mineral energy; firm finish, very good length.
Tasted blind. Half bottle. Rich and spicy nose, lots of caramelly new oak, citrus zest; powerful and oaky, concentrated, apple tart, mature but lively (I thought it was a Sauternes from the late 90's); very good resonance and length. Does not claim to be elegant, but certainly impressive. Not dissimilar in style to Yquem, but without the complexity and nuance.
