We had a fantastic meal with Roast veal sweetbread, potato agnolotti, English ceps and white truffle butter with the Pichon Lalande 1985 and 1986. Then Yorkshire grouse with polenta, elderberries and turnip tops with the two magnums of 1989. And the Roast fallow deer with jerusalem artichokes, cevenne onion and bone marrow with Pichon Baron 1990 and Château Margaux 1983. The aged Gouda, moelleux du Revard and Tunworth came as our last course.
1985 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 94 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Surprisingly great and truly Pichon Lalande (in style) between all the firework of this evening as PLL 1986 and 1989, Pichon Baron 1990 and Margaux 1983. Smooth and silky on the palate. Medicine box, leather and tobacco notes in nose and palate. A bit leaner and more developed than the other bottles but not less attractive and true-to-type.

1986 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
This bottle had a hard time after the 1985 from magnum. Possibly not in perfect condition? Less powerful, higher acidity and stringent in the finish. Score withheld.

1989 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 96 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
One of 1989' best examples. Elegant, concentrated, great depth and length. Still in its early stage (in magnum). The nose had classic Pauillac notes as tar, iron, medicine box. Furthermore leaves, eucalyptus and red fruits. Soft and smooth tannin in the finish, long lingering.

1989 Château Lynch-Bages 98 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Powerful, super-delineated and classic Pauillac. One of my favorite Bordeaux. Little black berries, iron, pencil-shaving, tar and blood notes in the nose. Smooth on the palate with IRON, iodine, earth. Finish still bit stringent with tannin as a 10-year old wine. This wine still has many years ahead.

1990 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 98 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
At a great evening with friends comparing Pichon Lalande 1985, 1986, 1989, this bottle and Château Margaux 1983 in Magnum format. In such company PB 1990 shows formidable! It has power as well as elegance on a level, delineation and integration exceeding most other great Bordeaux. Typical Pauillac in nose and palate; iron, tar, blood (palate), red fruits, graphite, ink (palate) and minerals. Ending in a long-lingering finish with well-integrated tannin indicating a much longer life ahead. Should drink well another 15 years.

1983 Château Margaux 99 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
The epitome of Elegance and sophistication. Complex, powerful and top delineation. Should age well for another 15 years, probably bringing the additional point leading to a perfect score. Notes of dark cherries, blood and graphite in the nose. A very seductive, polished and graceful palate with earth, tar, iron, lots of dark fruits. So smooth and 'effortless'. Another perfect magnum on this great evening with friends in London.
