Flight 1 - Kabinett (2 Notes)

  • 2016 A.J. Adam Hofberg Riesling Kabinett 90 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Lemon, melon, honey and peaches on the nose, with some floral elements as well. With time in the glass and rising temperature becoming more perfumed with notes of roses and other fragrant flowers. On the palate quite sweet bit with good acidity, especially on the finish. Not to complex, but good nonetheless. Perfect well chilled on a hot summers day.

This is as delicious as last time. Lots of diesel, rubber and smoke mingle with lemons on the nose. On the palate very pure and elegant structure with massive, smokey minerality. Good lenght. Looking forward to revisiting this after proper cellaring.

Flight 2 - Grosses Gewächs (2 Notes)

  • 2015 Weingut Keller Kirchspiel Riesling Großes Gewächs 94 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

Decanted about 30 min. Initially closed with just sky high acidity and some mineral but most of the fruit and details in hiding. With time (and rising temperature) we get unripe peaches and lemon. Some minerals, but very little smoke or petrol. Very clean. Very, very long. Great stuff but needs more time in the cellar. Potential for at least 2 more points. Next bottle in 2020.

  • 2015 von Winning Forster Kirchenstück Riesling Großes Gewächs 95 Points

    Germany, Pfalz

Delicious nose with loads of litchie, lemon, ripe pears and a slight smokieness. On the palate generous fruit but elegant with good acidity. Lemons, more litchie. Finishes with a lovely, fresh, sweet & sour lemon with dashes of sea-salt. Very, very good. One can of course cellar this but there is no obvious need for a long snooze.
