Some notes more thoughtful than others

Finished in Chivas whisky barrels, and quite popular among the crowds passing by. Smoky nose of berries and light spice. Rich raspberry palate with mouth-coating tannin and medium-low acid. OK.

Opaque ruby with tinges of purple. Nose of cedar, plum, and chocolate. Rich, full bodied. Raspberry and some herbs. Medium tannin, insufficient acid. $100??? Nope.

Very pale rose color. Pretty nose of raspberry and other berry and apricot. Very creamy mouthfeel with a palate of white peach and citrus peel. A bit drying.

[Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay]
Very pale lemon color with a tinge of green. Pear and baked apple pie on the nose, with a slight herbal/grassy element. Ripe, sweet spiced apples on the palate with citrus.

Shiraz, Cab, and others blend. Medium garnet color with tinges of brown. Very nutty almond raisin nose, somewhat sherry like. Full bodied with a palate of raisins, dried tropical fruit, some citrus. Great acidity. Not very sweet, with nice balance between the richness, sugar, and acidity. Nice.

Just a tinge of pink. Interesting savory nose with some toast and tropical notes. Rich, creamy palate with savory notes, red fruit, and plums. Interesting wine. OK.

Medium rose gold color. Initial attack of strawberry and red berry, but fades fairly quickly, leaving just a bit of sweetness (12g) and nothing else. Quite hollow. Meh.

Pale lemon color. Green pepper and jalapeño on the nose. Very interesting nose with a unique jalapeño note. Very light palate of citrus but with the continuing jalapeño note, ripe warmer-climate tropical notes, and a bit of roundness likely from the new oak. Interesting, but so atypical.

Nose is primarily oaky and buttery. Palate similarly is not an overdone butterbomb, but the palate is primarily showing oak and malo characteristics, burying the citrus fruit.

Color is medium bright pink. Medium intensity nose of berry candy. Palate is likewise candied. Overall, the wine is like a berry flavored candy. No!

Medium-deep ruby color. Nose dominated by green capsicum. Tart dark berries on the palate.

Opaque tawny color. Very rich nose of raspberry, chocolate, and slightly lifted black fruit. Palate of ripe blackberries and raspberries. Rather green tannin. Overall, a big wine with little complexity or interest, and seems to have little room for aging.

Opaque ruby color. Nose of an alcoholic berry liquor (though it was served a bit too warm). Initial attack is of an alcoholic raspberry jam, though lighter. Nutty notes, orange, and raspberry with good acidity. Nice.

Nice, savory; lacking concentration. OK

Early picked, only 9.6% alcohol. Slightly off-dry. Delicate nose of stone fruit and flowers; palate of green and white peach. An interesting take on Viognier.

Attempting to get a read from a stingy 1/4 oz pour, but this comes across as a lifted, raspberry jam, bitter mess of a wine.

Green pepper and berries on the nose. A beautifully textured palate; very pretty. Very nice wine!

My least favorite of the older cellar releases (the Petit Verdot and Cab Sauv are very nice!). Not very expressive on the nose and not a lot of excitement on the berry/spice palate. OK

Tropical fruit aromas, but not overly ripe, maintaining a cooler climate feel. OK
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Fruity; ripe tropical fruit and citrus.

The label makes both a "Pinot Grigio" and "Pinot Gris" to highlight different styles. This is certainly more herbal and savory than their fruit-forward Grigio. Nice.

Nice acidity. Some greener tropical fruit and green berries on the palate. Delightful.

Delicate nose of light berries and a bit of green pepper. On the palate, raspberry black pepper jam and a bit of oak influence. Not at all ripe, a very nice cool climate style Shiraz. Very good.

A bit lifted on the nose. Silky, peppery, a bit animal (heavily Mourvedre influenced) on the palate.

Very pretty wine and my favorite of the lineup so far. Medium light body, lively red berry plays nice with the darker fruit and spice.

Very interesting, complex nose; funky, earthy, savory. Berries and earth on the palate. Really interesting wine, with a good deal of earthy, funky complexity.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Very clean nose of herbs and berries (with no sign of the ever-present green pepper / eucalyptus). Ripe, yummy, rich, juicy berries on the palate with a tart blackberry finish. Not overly rich with fairly low tannin. A nice, interesting, drink-now style wine.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Very mature seeming on the nose, raisiny, with noticeable VA. Winemaker seemed content with the level of VA and the nose. On the palate, raisiny red berries and again VA, though perhaps somewhat balanced by the rich red fruit. Meh.

I don't think I've ever seen a Petit Syrah/Mourvedre blend. Nose shows the delightful animal/wild side of Mourvedre along with the (overripe?) raisiny side of the Petit Syrah similar to the single varietal Durif wine. Palate has oak sweetness, some noticeable alcohol, Mourvedre-contributed wild berry.
Overall, a weird nose (or perhaps just unusual) but on the palate, the combination somehow works.

Rich, but not overly so. Shows the sweet, spicy side of Shiraz. Nice balance.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
I enjoyed the younger Shiraz much more as this showed more advanced, raisiny notes on the nose and palate and the sweet oak seemed a bit out of balance.

2017 Schild Estate Rosé Barossa Valley

2017 Schild Estate Chardonnay Unwooded
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Pale lemon color. While unwooded, the nose is a bit buttery from the malo, along with citrus and flowers. Nice richness on entry, with stone fruit, but quite hollow on the mid-palate. Pleasant finish of tart peach. OK

2015 Schild Estate Chardonnay Alma Schild Reserve
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Expansive nutty and floral nose along with some contribution from the oak. The nose at times walked right up to the line of being a bit too rich and woody, but stayed on the good side of the lime. Much more interesting nose than the younger estate unwooded chardonnay. On the palate, rich peaches, nuts, lees. Quite nice. +

2016 Schild Estate Sparkling Shiraz
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Faint nose of berries and sweet spices. Off dry. On the palate, an initial rush of raspberries and spice hollows out quickly into a short finish.

2016 Schild Estate GMS Barossa Valley

2016 Schild Estate Grenache Edgar Schild Reserve
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
From 100 year old vines. Berries and chocolate on the nose and palate. Full bodied and rich, with relatively low, fuzzy tannin. Nice, simple, but not something I'd spend $30+ on.

2013 Schild Estate Shiraz Ben Schild Reserve Barossa Valley

2017 Schild Estate Moscato
Australia, South Australia, Barossa
Very pale with a slight lime tint. Nose of rich apple, candy, flowers. Effervescent entry with a bit of sweetness. Pretty floral and sweet apple attack, but then really hollows out on the mid-palate; fairly low perceptible acid. Promising nose, but meh.

2014 Schild Estate Shiraz Pramie
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

2013 Schild Estate Shiraz Moorooroo Barossa Valley
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Apparently, this is the second oldest vineyard in the Barossa Valley at 170 years old (?). Very nice low-mid intensity nose, with blue and red berries, sandalwood, though with a drop of VA. Amazing mouthfeel, with a palate of fruity and crunchy red berries. Overall, not too exciting, and certainly not for a $100 per bottle.
