Palest straw. Initially quite cold. Tight and quite limey nose. Suggests lots of cut. Crisp attack, initially tight and it takes a while to loosen and unfurl slightly. When it does it’s leaner than the Vide Bourse and narrower too as one might expect. Lots of line and PY character. A youngster. ***1/2 currently, some upside potential.

Pale straw. Rounder, more open, richer than the Ansegnieres alongside. Obviously more here, breadth and depth, and the extra fat makes it more approachable. This is slightly more restrained currently than the 2011 but there’s not much in it. Long and nicely persistent. ****

Initially quite tight on the nose, but opens up to a deep, dark red fruit with a slightly stewed ripe plum element that makes me think a bit of 1990. This is still structured and quite strict on the palate, even with food. Lots of substance and potential here but perhaps impressive rather than loveable presently. ***(*)

Darker, richer, quite densely fruited with some spice. Smooth and moderately rich on the palate. Very Vosne. Lovely. ****

Deep garnet. Velvety. Double-decanted for sediment around here hours ahead of drinking. Initially when decanted all southern garrigue, though this was less obvious when served, green olive creeping in too. Very mellow and smooth. With the extended airing there’s a dry note creeping in to the finish. Probably better decanted immediately prior to service though there’s a reasonable sediment so trickier if transporting. ****

Not DOA, but a below par bottle. Unfocused, dominated by stale coffee and lacking bright fruit and orange peel development. A touch cloudy too.

Lovely rich Syrah, very northern Rhône despite hailing from further south. Broad and dense with a slightly smokey, sweet-fruited core. This is very good. ****

Pale to mid salmon. Gorgeous nose, verging on the most exquisite, though delicate, red burgundy. Floral, bright red fruited. No discernible bubbles, just a finely creamy attack that carries through to the mid palate texturally, and is joined by those fine red fruits. On the finish there’s a sense that this is Champagne. Long. Lovely, slightly unusual but none the worse for that. Super stuff. ****1/2
