Introduction

What perfect day trying all of Paul Bara's range of fine #champagne and finishing with a glass of their 1964 Bouzy Rouge! Growing in the glass feeling much more alive than I would've anticipated...

Flight 1 - Toast Skagen tillsammans med FVL och PB (3 Notes)

  • NV Jacques Selosse Initial 92 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

    (Disgorged in January 2016)
This is lovely as always and should benefit from further cellar time. Dominated by oak and showing a maltiness in the beginning. After some time in the glass it opens up showing butterscotch in a very positive way.

  • 2005 Paul Bara Champagne Grand Cru Annonciade 92 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

(Disgorged in spring of 2017, 70% Pinot noir, 30% Chardonnay, vinified in older oak barrels for nine months)
Interesting spicy nose showing ginger, cloudberries and orange peel at first, then opening up with flowery notes and transforming into a lovely butterscotch note. Palate very intense with tropical notes and yellow apples and with a long fresh acidity that is promising for a long life. This was a very positive and pleasant surprise. Best 2017-2035.

  • 1964 Paul Bara Coteaux Champenois Grand Cru Bouzy Rouge 89 Points

    France, Champagne, Coteaux Champenois

At first very odd notes of nail polish, but as it received more and more air it started showing charcuterie, nuttiness and lighter flowers. And with even more time it showed notes of ginger spices. Palate was very acidic at first and with time showed flowers, ginger and even a hint of butterscotch in a very good way, transforming and showing a silky smooth palate in the end where fruit and acidity was very good! This was a very nice experience and exceptionally well from a bottle half empty from leakage and still being so well preserved. Probably at its best when it was 10-30 years old.
