Introduction

One of the better features of Hunter Wine Month this year. Mount Pleasant putting on a four flight Maurice O'Shea tasting with matching food. A great way to start a day in Pokolbin.

Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 1997 Mount Pleasant Wines Shiraz Maurice O'Shea 92 Points

Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley

From coravin. For a wet year this is a very good result. Delivers a classic hunter profile of leather and earth sitting alongside red berries and plums. Drinking well and still has legs for the future. Solid benchmark for a 20+ year old icon.

The nose on this is a winner. Beautiful. It’s in a really good place at the moment, have been a little underwhelmed with these ‘03s in the past, but would say it’s close to peak at the moment.

  • 2011 Mount Pleasant Wines Shiraz Maurice O'Shea 94 Points

Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley

The most restrained nose of the four on show today. It’s still tightly wound, albeit approachable, seems to be the norm with Hunter ‘11s across the board. This looks like a sleeper which will outlive most other vintages. Everything is packed into this, just under wraps at the moment. 94+

  • 2014 Mount Pleasant Wines Shiraz Maurice O'Shea 96 Points

Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley

Translucent purple in the glass. This looks sexy. The nose offers up a raft of bright purple fruit and red berries against some light smokey notes. So fresh to taste, this is going to live a long and distinguished life. It’s a pity the price tag now says $250 because it means I most likely won’t be finding out. 96+

Well worth it. Each vintage showing very well today. The 2014 excites me no end.
