Introduction

We brought together three of PYCM's finest to began our 2015 white burgundy exploration.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2015 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

A delightful trio of 2015 PYCM. All decanted for four hours, then re-bottled to bring next door to dinner. The Perrieres stole my heart, and was the most accessible of the three. It drank well without apologies, notwithstanding some comments on the "15" vintage expression. On first sip upon opening, it was all citrus and less intensity. But with the air time we gave it - four hours in the decanter and two hours in the glass - this delivered a classic young expression of Perrieres, with all the precision, minerality, and energy to fully harness the fruit. A lovely bottle, and one we'll contrast with the 2014 very soon in a side by side. Can't wait for that.

Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 2015 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Bâtard-Montrachet

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

Our second entry of 2015 PYCM was the Batard. Again, this was given four hours in the decanter and then re-bottled for dinner. At opening, this presented with depth, concentration, and outright quality. But four to six hours of air did wonders for this bottle, brought some sexiness to the table, and it was definitely garnering votes for WOTN. For me neck and neck with the Perrieres.

Flight 3 (1 Note)

  • 2015 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chevalier-Montrachet

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru

The Chevalier was third of the trio, and also had four hours in the decanter and two hours in the glass. Tonight's bottle was the most constrained of our trio. And while it clearly feels, tastes, and revels in the quality that it is, it stayed tightly wound for our six hours. I'd buy more of this wine in a heartbeat, but it will likely need a lot more time to develop. Keep these 2015 Chevalier in the cellar, but don't be afraid to take a couple early spins with the 2015 Perrieres and 2015 Batard. You won't be disappointed. Remember to decant twice as long as you think you should.

Happy to have all of these in my cellar in drinking quantities, and look forward to their development.
