Chassagne-Montrachet
Tasted Wednesday, June 27, 2018 by Burgundy Al with 440 views
My first ever visit. Mostly with Anne-France and Clarisse Ramonet, with a guest appearance by Noel Ramonet and the late arrival of Jean-Claude, as we got ready to head out to dinner.
2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Bouzeron
France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Bouzeron
Tasting at the domaine. Nicely rich for its level, but that's the vintage, but also with charming balance. Apple throughout with some lemon peel at the end. Fun and easy. 86-87 point potential.

2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Chardonnay Bourgogne
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Tasting at the domaine. Green and yellow apple with impressive depth for its level. Also very impressively balanced for near-term enjoyment. 87-88 point potential.

2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
Tasting at the domaine. Big step up in richness and concentration vs Bourgogne. I'd like a little more length and finesse, but perhaps that will come with another year or two in the bottle. 87-89 point potential.

2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Puligny-Montrachet
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Tasting at the domaine. Better richness, concentration and length vs Chassagne. Ripe apple and baked apple throughout, again with very good balance already young. Best to enjoy now through 2024.

2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Murgers des Dents de Chien Blanc
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Lots of reduction here that some people can easily get past, while others can not. I found it very hard to get past.

2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Boudriotte
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at the domaine. The rich/ fat style of the vintage is clear, with this wine getting bigger and bigger from start-to-finish, but with the structure to support it all. Good depth start-to-finish with long finish. 89-91 point potential.

2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos du Cailleret
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Lighter style, especially for 2016, but this is really my style of wine, even with its moderate concentration. Mint, floral and spice with more modestly ripe orchard fruit. Sneaky length is really long here, with an elegant leanness for the vintage. 92-93 point potential.

2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Rich and nicely powerful. Baked apple and peach, so on the riper side of a fruit profile. Good power and length. 89-91 point potential.

2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Dense, powerful and perhaps slightly compact to start. Impressive mineral-laced finish with both power and elegance. 91-93 point potential.

2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Ruchottes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at the domaine. No surprise, easily the highlight of the 1er Cru portfolio. Incredibly bright and vibrant but not a hair out of place. Rich pear and apple with mint and sassafras. So easy and elegant together. 93-94 point potential.

2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Canet
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasted at the domaine. Just bottled one week ago. Accentuates the vintage ripeness in both good ways (intensity and concentration) and bad ways (less brightness or energy). I like this but find a less classic sweetness that I hope softens and fades.

2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Lemon confit and ripe apple with best spice and mint of the lineup. Very ripe but with good restraint and balance, while easily also coming across as certainly powerful. 92-93 point potential.

2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Bâtard-Montrachet
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Lots of floral and mint on nose. While ripe and fleshy, this is also very backward in a way that says " stay away from me for 5+ years." I think this will eventually exceed the wonderful Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet in terms of quality, but I am not certain.

2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Chevalier-Montrachet
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
Tasting at the domaine. So intriguing in so many ways. Mint, ripe apple, pear and poached pear throughout. Intense spice. Alluring start, ripe middle, then a leaner, brighter and powerful finish. VG+ potential.

2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Montrachet
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Tasting at the domaine. We are not going to see many bottles of this treat. Rich start followed by amazing textures middle-through-finish. Very, very, very long finish. Once this baby fat burns off, there will something stunning here. 96-98 point potential.
